District Update January 6, 2026

2FY16-FY253BImage

Dear ,

My Statement on Venezuela

Nicholas Maduro was a dictator, a drug dealer, and a thug who needed to go. Thanks to our brave military, that has now happened. It is my hope that with the scourge of Maduro now removed, the Venezuelan people can choose a rightfully elected leader in a free and fair election.

In Memory of Doug LaMalfa

I’m deeply saddened by the passing of Doug LaMalfa. Doug was a principled public servant and a tireless advocate for rural communities. He never forgot who he worked for.

Doug would help me with my floor speeches. He genuinely cared about the debt deficit and demographics we were working on.

Please join me in praying for his family, his staff, and the people of Northern California as they grieve this loss.

Need Help With a Federal Agency?

Image
One of the most important things I do as a member of Congress is help constituents manage their interactions with federal agencies. My office casework team is available to answer questions or provide advocacy with federal agencies as you work to resolve pending claims or seeking a response to your concern.

From passports and Medicare, to the VA Health Care System, there are dozens of federal agencies my office can assist you with. To learn more on how we can assist you, I encourage you to contact my District Office at (480) 946-2411 to have your case concerns assessed.

Fox Business: Growth, Wages and Fiscal Reality

I joined Fox Business on Christmas Eve to talk about what it will take to keep the economy moving in 2026 and make sure working families actually feel it.

The fastest way to improve affordability is not a slogan war about one product or one price. It is productivity. When productivity rises, wages can rise with it. That is also why I have been pushing to modernize parts of the tax code that encourage investment and building more here at home.

As a senior member of Ways and Means, I also talked about the hard work Congress has to do on process. Getting back to regular order on appropriations matters. It is how you impose discipline and force real tradeoffs. Reconciliation has a role, but it should be used carefully and intentionally.

Finally, we cannot ignore the math. We are borrowing more than $6 billion a day, roughly $70,000 a second. If we want lower interest costs and a stronger economy, we have to show the country and the markets that we are serious about getting our fiscal house in order.

Getting Ready for the 2026 Tax Filing Season

Image

A smooth filing season starts with a little prep now. The IRS has a solid checklist at IRS.gov/GetReady, and taking 10 minutes to get organized can save you time later.

This year, that preparation matters even more because the One, Big, Beautiful Bill delivers major, pro-worker tax relief and updates that taxpayers should plan around. The IRS and Treasury are working through implementation and guidance, including new deductions and provisions such as no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, no tax on car loan interest and a temporary deduction for seniors. As the details are finalized, I will keep you updated on what changes and when it takes effect.

In the meantime, the best thing you can do is gather your records and keep them in one place. Organized paperwork helps you file accurately and avoid errors that can delay refunds. Start with:

  • Bank account information for direct deposit
  • W-2s from your employer or employers
  • 1099s from banks and other payers
  • Records of digital asset transactions

One last tip: Wait to file until you have received all your tax documents. A complete return is usually the fastest return.

What I'm Reading and Why it Matters

Artificial intelligence begins prescribing medications in Utah

For years I’ve led legislation to allow AI to prescribe. In order to lower costs, expand access, and make Americans healthier we must realign incentives and legalize innovation. It will be interesting to learn from this.

Do you have any general questions that I can help answer? Do not hesitate to reach out to my offices at (202) 225-2190 or (480) 946-2411.

Thank you for taking the time to read this update on my latest work in Washington, D.C. and Arizona’s First Congressional District! If you have any comments or concerns, I encourage you to reach out to my office.

Sincerely,
