Dear ,

Keeping Our Promises in an Aging America

Image

Wednesday, the Joint Economic Committee will hold a hearing entitled “Keeping Our Promises: Labor Inflows, Maintaining Competitiveness, and Supporting an Aging Population,” which will focus on labor flows as the nation faces an aging population, stagnant fertility rates, and the urgent need to rejuvenate the American workforce.

Debt is increasing rapidly and now dwarfs Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the U.S. Smarter policies can ameliorate this problem. High-skilled immigration, particularly in underserved or bottlenecked industries, results in more innovation and more economic growth. However, the framework currently used in the U.S. distributes visas randomly or by order of application rather than by merit. Further, the global pool of elite talent is finite, and other countries, many are American adversaries, are also attempting to attract high-skilled labor.

Contemporary debates surrounding labor inflows have often focused on the politics of immigration rather than the practical necessity of generating and importing high-skilled labor. This hearing will explore innovative pathways to grow the American workforce of the future to ensure continued economic and national security.

 Congressional Art Competition

The 2026 Congressional Art Competition for Arizona’s First Congressional District is underway!

High school students interested in participating can review the rules and regulations, find the student release form and see artwork from prior years at my website, 2026 Congressional Art Competition – Congressman Schweikert.

Each year, students from across the nation submit their works of art to the competition. The first place winner from each district has his or her piece displayed in U.S. Capitol for one year, the second place piece is displayed in the member’s D.C. office, and the third place winner’s piece is displayed in the member’s district office.

Students will need to complete TWO copies the 2026 Student release forms, one to turn in upon submission, the other to be attached to the back of their artwork.

Artwork must be submitted at the Scottsdale Artists’ School at 3720 N Marshall Way, Scottsdale, AZ 85251, between 3 and 5pm on Monday, April 20th.

This is the only time available to submit their artwork. If students, parents, or teachers have any questions please contact Chris Wiley, of my District Office staff at (480) 946-2411. It is always a pleasure to see what talented young artists in our community can create!

Prescott Regional as an Economic and Public Safety Asset

Image

Good meeting today with Mayor Cathey Rusing and City Manager Dallin Kimble on the work underway at Prescott Regional and its importance to northern Arizona. Most people would never guess it is the 18th busiest airport in the country by total aircraft operations. It is an important economic asset for the region and a critical hub for Arizona’s wildfire response.

2026 Academy Fair for AZ01 set for Saturday, April 25th

Image

As your Congressman in the U.S. House of Representatives for Arizona’s First Congressional District, each year I have the privilege of nominating a limited number of students for scholarships to attend a military service academy.

The U.S. Service Academies are among the most highly respected educational programs in the nation. To be admitted to an academy, applicants must meet stringent academic, physical and medical requirements specified by public law.

As a cadet/midshipman at the academy, students will be provided a fully-funded four-year college education. The honor of attending an academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve for a minimum of five years upon graduation.

What I'm Reading and Why it Matters

How to Protect Yourself From Financial Scams Targeting Older Adults

Older Americans are being targeted by financial scammers at a staggering rate. In 2024, Americans over 60 reported nearly 147,000 scams and $4.9 billion in losses. The first rule is simple: slow down. If someone claims to be from your bank, Medicare, law enforcement, or a company you use, hang up and call the real number yourself. A few minutes of caution can protect a lifetime of savings.
