A Weekly Note From Rep. Ciscomani.

Last week we kicked off the new year strong, heading to Eagle Pass for a visit to the border and visiting with constituents across the district once back in AZ-06. Next week I'm heading back to Washington, D.C. to begin our 2024 legislative session. We have a lot left to tackle this Congress and I am committed to continuing to deliver real results for our district. Watch this week’s #CiscomaniMinute for more – featuring a paw-esome special guest.

Visiting Eagle Pass.

I spent Wednesday in Eagle Pass, Texas, with Speaker Mike Johnson and 65 of my Republican colleagues to address the ongoing border crisis. This visit focused on understanding the entire southern border, beyond what we witness in A-Z06. While each sector faces unique challenges, the frustrations shared by the people in Eagle Pass echo those in Tucson with 80,000 coming over the border just last month. You find watch my full remarks on the trip here.Image

Reporting back to you.

This week, I met with 25 local licensed real estate brokers to discuss a variety of issues currently facing Congress. Our conversation covered topics from the border crisis to protecting our natural resources. As our district continues to grow, their jobs become more and more valuable. Thank you for having me!Image

Recognizing our next generation.

I had the privilege of meeting with Cutter Papritz, one of our district’s incredible recipients of the Congressional Youth Award. I was thrilled to honor Cutter for this award and the hard work that led to this recognition.

The Congressional Youth Award was established by Congress back in 1979 and is the highest honor our young people can receive through the Senate and House of Representatives. I’m so proud to have Cutter and other young individuals like him in our district, striving to make AZ-06 a better place.

All paws on deck.

This I wrapped up the week with a doggone great meeting with Sampson the service dog and his parents, Joey Ramp Adams and Tombstone Marshall Jim Adams. Sampson and Joey are powerful advocates for the inclusion of service dogs in public places. Through their work, they shine a light on the difficulties that individuals with service dogs face, specifically in research environments and academic or scientific labs. This meeting was un-fur-gettable and I’m thankful to have strong advocates like Sampson and the Adams in our communities.

American Dream: Maritza Lynn Higuera.

When Maritza Lynn Higuera talks about the American Dream, she uses words like family, friends, community and support.

“You make your American Dream with the people around you – the people in your life,” she says.

For the past two decades, many of the people in Maritza’s life have been children. We met her at Head Start in Tucson, where she began as a teacher’s aide, worked as a teacher herself for a dozen years and now serves as the organization’s health and nutrition coordinator.

Helping about 300 kids in four southern Arizona counties eat right and stay healthy is an awesome responsibility. It inspired her to write “If I eat my fruits and vegetables/Si como mis frutas y verduras,” an illustrated bilingual book for children that was published two years ago.

Maritza was inspired by her husband, a Nogales fire fighter, to publish her second book for young readers, “Fire Heroes/Héroes de Fuego.” Also written in English and Spanish, this book features illustrations by a Rio Rico High School art teacher showing fire fighters responding to emergencies.

Both books are rooted in Maritza’s desire to help kids practice their reading skills and create opportunities for them to realize their American Dream. “I’m very thankful for what I have, for what I’ve worked for,” she says. “I want to share that.”Image
