A Weekly Note From Rep. Ciscomani.

From passing my border-focused legislation to introducing my new bill and speaking on the House floor, last week was a banner week in Washington, D.C. I also had the opportunity to meet with a number of Arizonans visiting the Capitol, support the passage of House Republicans’ historic tax package and so much more.

PASSED: My effort to crack down on high-speed car chases.

On Tuesday, the House PASSED my bill, H.R. 5585, the Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act – with bipartisan support! Over the last few years, we have seen a spike in high-speed car chases between smugglers and local law enforcement or CBP. Almost every day, our neighborhoods see these dangerous pursuits come through our communities. Last year, I introduced the Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act to crack down on individuals who engage in high-speed chases with law enforcement or CBP. I’m thrilled to see my colleagues understand the critical need for this type of legislation. With its passage last week, the effort is now one step closer to becoming law! Read more about this legislation here.

Giving our veterans’ surviving families a voice.

As a member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee and representative to over 70,000 veterans, serving our veterans and their families is a top priority. Last week I introduced my latest effort to give our veterans’ surviving families a stronger voice within the VA. H.R. 7100, the Prioritizing Veterans’ Survivors Act ensures their needs are prioritized, especially when it comes to accessing the benefits they are owed. The United States has a sacred promise to care for our service members, our veterans, and their families; this effort brings us closer to wholly fulfilling that solemn responsibility.

Highlighting stories from AZ-06.

One of my favorite parts of my job in Congress is highlighting the incredible people, organizations, or groups in AZ-06. Last week, I had the chance to speak on the House floor to honor the life of Air Force veteran Vern Pellman and celebrate the recent state championship victory at Canyon Del Oro High School. Through these floor speeches, I am able to share just a few stories of the amazing people in Arizona’s 6th District each week. If you or your organization would like to be recognized on the House floor, please don’t hesitate to contact my office!

Tax Relief for American Families and Workers.

Last week, the House passed a historic tax relief package with support on both sides of the aisle! H.R. 7024, the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act is aimed at helping small businesses grow and providing tax relief to Americans struggling against inflation. By reducing government overreach and expanding commonsense tax policies – like the child tax credit – we are creating a better environment for businesses to grow, families to flourish, and Americans to succeed.

Profiles of the American Dream: Louie Sanchez.

Coach Chuy Sanchez is a legend in El Paso. When he died in 2022 at age 98, the World War II veteran’s funeral was packed with former students who he’d helped and mentored over the years.

“He was a role model to many,” his son, Louie, says. “He changed the trajectory of people’s lives as an educator and coach.”

Inspired by his dad, Louie is making his own mark in Casa Grande, where he serves as the general manager for Walmart’s bustling 900,000-square-foot distribution center.

If you buy groceries at a Walmart anywhere in Arizona, they get to your kitchen table through Casa Grande. Louie and his team oversee the center, which is responsible for hundreds of jobs at the northern edge of Arizona’s 6th Congressional District.

Louie is a firm believer in giving back to his community. He’s a former Rotarian of the Year and Casa Grande Chamber of Commerce Business Leader of the Year who started a mentorship program at Casa Grande Middle School and works with the Humane Society, United Way and Salvation Army. A few years ago he was honored for his exemplary leadership by Valle del Sol Community Health.

“The more you share, the more it comes back you,” Louie says. “Every successful person has others who enable that success. None of us do it alone.”

As for the American Dream, Louie’s definition is an inspiration. “Our country presents us with many opportunities. The American Dream is the ability to take advantage of those endless opportunities in whatever field your passionate about. It won’t be easy. It won’t be handed to you. But you define it. You control it. You pursue it. In America we have control of our own destiny.”
