A Weekly Note from Rep. Ciscomani.

Last week was a busy week, spending the first half in D.C. and the second half in AZ-06. From introducing new legislation to visiting a hospital in Sierra Vista to celebrating 13 projects in the district receiving more than $26 million, there was no shortage of activities.

March has continued to be one of the most popular times for families, organizations, and groups visiting Washington, D.C. It is always a pleasure to see Arizonans in the Capitol, whether they are touring the building or advocating for issues they care about. Watch last week’s #CiscomaniMinute for more!

$26 million headed to AZ-06.

On Friday, I hosted a press conference alongside a group of community leaders to celebrate over $26 million in funding that is headed to our district. I was proud to secure this money through the FY24 appropriations process and am excited to see it implemented in projects in all 5 counties.

The individuals who joined me represented a project or community that would receive this money and spoke to the impact it would have on their areas. I am so thankful for their partnership throughout this process and look forward to continuing our work together to deliver for southern Arizona.

Empowering our next generation.

Last week, I had the opportunity to meet with student organizations who traveled to the Capitol to advocate for issues they care about. On Tuesday, I met with members of Sierra Vista’s Youth Commission and on Wednesday, I met with a group of 4-H students from across southern Arizona. Each of these groups had thoughtful, engaging questions about topics from TikTok to the environment.

As a father of six, it is so inspiring to see our next generation take action and address the issues facing their communities!

Bill #20.

On Wednesday I introduced new bipartisan legislation to increase transparency for Medicare. This effort marks the 20th bill I have introduced during my first 14 months in office! Crafting legislation that reflects the needs and concerns of our district is a priority for me. From my first bill focusing on veterans’ benefits to this most recent legislation on Medicare, I am driven to introduce bills that tackle Arizonans’ top concerns.

ICYMI: Joining WakeUp! Tucson.

I joined my friend Chris DeSimone on WakeUp! Tucson to give an update on our work both in Washington and here in Arizona. I had the chance to explain the importance of the over $26 million in federal funding that we recently secured for AZ-06. The projects receiving this money touch all corners of the district and span from topics like rural health care to clean water. You can listen to the full segment HERE.

Profile of the American Dream: Jenny Howard.

The Eastern Arizona Courier nailed it last year when they tapped Jenny Howard as one of the Gila Valley’s most influential people. The paper touted her “savvy and determination” as they recounted how she went from a construction manager at an engineering firm specializing in high voltage transmission lines to a local entrepreneur and government leader.

“I’ve been blessed, truly,” Jenny says. “I really have. Everything has just kind of fallen into place.”

With her husband John, who is a Graham County Supervisor, she owns two successful businesses – one has turned Safford into a gourmet olive oil hot spot and the other is a go-to place to go for your morning jolt of coffee. Her government involvement is, in a word, extensive. For 14 years, Jenny worked for the City of Safford, as Public Works Director and Utilities Director. She retired in 2018 but kicking back wasn’t Jenny’s thing. That same year she was elected to the Thatcher City Council and currently holds the post of Vice Mayor. And if that isn’t enough, in 2022 she was appointed by Gov. Doug Ducey to the Arizona State Transportation Board.

“I love people and I love serving the community,” she says. “If there’s a need, I just like to serve.”

And that right there is the stuff American Dreams are made of.

Share your story.

Our district encompasses so many incredible people and stories that I want to share both with my colleagues in Washington and through the platforms I have as a member of Congress, such as speaking on the House floor. You can visit my website and share your story with me and my team. I look forward to hearing from you!
