A Weekly Note from Rep. Ciscomani.
This week’s #CiscomaniMinute comes to you special from Israel. I joined my House Republican colleagues on a congressional delegation to Israel as they continue to defend themselves against Hamas. In this moment in history, the U.S.-Israel partnership is more important than ever. From meeting with IDF soldiers to visiting with families of the hostages in Hamas captivity, this trip underscored my support for Israel. Watch this week’s update for more.

Ground Zero.
Last week, I visited the site of the Nova Music Festival and Kibbutz Nir Oz – ground zero for the October 7 attacks. Meeting with the families of the hostages – many of them survivors of the attack – was one of the most tragically impactful parts of the visit. We have seen the names, the numbers, and the video footage, but once you see the faces and you walk through the homes destroyed in the carnage, it makes these heinous crimes even more gut wrenching. There are no words to describe what my colleagues saw and felt as we walked through these areas. It only furthers the need to hold the Hamas terrorists fully accountable for these atrocities.

Building a strong U.S.-Israel partnership.
My colleagues and I had the chance to meet with several Israeli leaders, including Israel President Isaac Herzog and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Our delegation discussed the importance of a strong U.S.-Israel partnership, our unwavering support for the Israeli people, and the state of the country as they continue to fight Hamas terrorists. As we head back to Washington, these meetings will equipped us with a better understanding of the challenges that Israel is facing.

Living history.
While in Israel, we had an opportunity to visit some of the country’s most beautiful religious landmarks like the Western Wall and Old City of Jerusalem. These sites are a pillar for Jewish, Muslim, and Christian history. I am reminded of the importance of preserving and protecting these holy landmarks for future generations. These sites draw visitors from around the globe and continue to bridge the gap between different religions.

READ: Irrigation Leader.
Last month, I had the honor of being featured in the Arizona Edition of Irrigation Leader Magazine, highlighting the critical work being done to conserve water and improve infrastructure in Arizona’s 6th District. In this interview, I was able to share the significance of conservation and collaboration, discussing several bills I have introduced to benefit southwestern water conservation. Additionally, this platform gave me the opportunity to showcase some of the projects we were able to fund through this year’s appropriations process, such as Southeast Houghton Area Recharge Project (SHARP) in Tucson. I am proud to serve as a consistent, strong voice for safeguarding Arizona’s water future.

Profiles of the American Dream: Roselyn Dorell.
You know something extraordinary is going on when a high school student manages to earn her college associate degree before she finishes high school.
But with Roselyn Dorell, the extraordinary has become ordinary. Or as Ian Kirkwood, the publisher of the Eastern Arizona Courier, put it last month when he presented Roselyn with the 2024 Most Influential Youth award for Graham and Greenlee counties, “that just scratches the surface of what she has accomplished in her young life.”
Student council, Bible club, honor society, golf, violin, a parttime job as a lifeguard, community volunteer, founder of Morenci’s first robotics club – Roselyn is one of those people who make you wonder how she has time for it all.
“It’s hard work,” she says. “Hard work pays off.”
So does having the right attitude. Roselyn’s is all about goals and dreams. “A lot of people cut their dreams short because of what they think is achievable,” she says. “My view is that everything is achievable until I’m dead.”
That anything-is-possible approach may be at the heart of the American Dream.
Roselyn gets her associate’s in general studies from Eastern Arizona College next month. Next year she’s done with Morenci High School. After that, she has her sights set on a career in aerospace engineering and criminal justice. How those seemingly disparate interests coincide Roselyn isn’t quite sure but “they’re both my passions.”
If the past is any indication, she’ll figure it out.
