A Weekly Note from Rep. Ciscomani.

As the country unites following the violence in Pennsylvania over the weekend, Laura and I continue to pray for President Trump, the innocent bystander that was killed and his family, those that remain in critical condition, and all the attendees. We also owe our utmost gratitude to the law enforcement officers and agents who acted swiftly in response. Our political leaders should never fear that their beliefs or political stances threaten their lives, and I am glad to see those in positions of power and influence condemn this attack. Americans should never fear that their beliefs or political stances will threaten their lives, and I am glad to see those in positions of power and influence condemn this attack.

Next week, the House will hold hearings to review testimonies from the Department of Homeland Security, Secret Service, and other related agencies. You can learn more about Congressional action surrounding this matter here.

Ciscomani Minute.

From hosting a telephone town hall to speaking on the Veterans' Affairs Committee about my bill, the Rural Veterans Improved Access to Benefits Act (H.R. 8881) there’s no shortage of things from this week to report back on. Most importantly, this week, House Appropriations Committee passed our final appropriations packages out of the committee, provisionally securing $34 million for our district!

Delivering for AZ-06.

From my first day in office, I promised to use my position as Arizona’s sole House appropriator to ensure the government is spending your tax dollars responsibly while fighting for our district’s priorities.

I am proud to continue making good on this promise by preliminarily securing $34 million for projects in all five counties in the district that will facilitate growth, enhance public safety, secure our water supply, expand access to housing, and strengthen our critical infrastructure. This builds on the more than $26 million I secured last year for 13 projects in all five counties in the district. The funds we secured will go to projects that represent the exact needs that the government should be providing for: housing, water security, infrastructure, and public safety. As this legislation heads to the House floor, I’ll continue to advocate to get these funds across the finish line.  Should these funds be signed into law, I will have secured $60 million for the district during my freshman term in Congress.

Hearing from you.

Last Monday, I hosted a telephone townhall focused on health care with Julia Strange from Tucson Medical Center. We answered questions from constituents and had a great conversation around health care access in AZ-06, specifically in our rural areas. I appreciated the opportunity to talk about the impacts our health care programs have on our community and other pressing needs in our district. It was a great conversation, and I am grateful to all of you who took the time to join.

Caring for our veterans.

One of my top priorities in Congress is to support the 70,000 veterans that call AZ-06 home. Last week, I spoke in front of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee to discuss my bill, the Rural Veterans Improved Access to Benefits Act (H.R. 8881). This piece of legislation aims to cut red tape in the disability claims process and ensures all veterans, especially those in rural communities, can see the closest provider for their disability claims exams. Specifically, the bill would permanently authorize cross-state access to certified health care providers for required disability claim exams.

I am proud to spearhead this bipartisan effort to expand access to health care for our veterans. Red tape should not prevent our veterans from accessing care when and where they need it, whether that means crossing state lines or crossing the street.

Spearhead historic tribal water agreement.

Last week, I led my fellow members of the Arizona delegation on the Northeastern Arizona Indian Water Rights Settlement Act (H.R. 8940).This bill would ratify the recent settlement agreement, marking a significant step toward securing Arizona’s water future and providing much-needed water delivery systems for the Tribes.

The Northeastern Arizona Indian Water Rights Settlement Agreement and this legislation, which I am proud to introduce, will provide a long-lasting partnership between our state and the Navajo Nation, the Hopi Tribe, and the San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe. This not only gives much-needed certainty to the Tribes but allows Arizona to better plan for a secure water future while providing for improved water infrastructure throughout the region. I will continue to fight for AZ-06 water rights!

“Check-In” program.

Discussing mental health can be challenging, but the “Check-In” program offers a no-cost, confidential service from the Veteran Wellness Alliance that simplifies access to high-quality mental health care for veterans, active-duty service members, and their families. This platform collaborates with other veteran-serving groups to prioritize the well-being of our veterans.

Profiles of the American Dream: Morena Dixon-Montijo.

Tombstone is famously known as “the town too tough to die” but Morena Dixon-Montijo is all about keeping people alive.

Last month, the 21-year-old lieutenant in the Tombstone Fire Department became the first female paramedic in the city’s colorful history.

Morena has been a firefighter for three years. But as she recently told the Sierra Vista Herald, she was motivated to take her training to the next level by a desire to provide a higher level of emergency care to the rural community she serves.

“Some of these patients, they require so much more than I was able to give them,” she says.
Every second matters when you’re a paramedic. Morena realized she needed to do more after she went to Florida to help with disaster relief efforts during and after Hurricane Ian in September 2022.

“Not being able to provide more for my patients really sparked a flame in my soul,” she says. “So, I said, ‘Go to school to get a higher level of care and give it your all.’ ”

Giving it your all. Helping others. Pursuing your goals. That right there is what the American Dream is all about.
