Updating Tucson Metro Chamber.
Last week, I had the pleasure of speaking at the ‘Good Morning Tucson’ monthly breakfast, where I updated Tucson Metro Chamber members about my work in Congress. Keeping our community leaders informed about our achievements in Congress and forging strong federal-local partnerships is crucial to deliver tangible results for our district. I was proud to announce that I preliminarily secured $17.94 million for six projects in Pima County. This includes $2.25 million for water system improvements at Marana’s airport, $1.75 million for a new groundwater treatment facility in Marana, $7 million for bridge repairs in Oro Valley, $810,000 for 70 new handheld police radios for the Sahuarita Police Department, $1.75 million to connect two reclamation facilities in Tucson, enhancing local water retention, and $4.38 million for Tucson’s Community Safety Vehicle fleet, including new patrol vehicles, motorcycles, trucks, and a mobile command center. I am extremely proud of these accomplishments and remain committed to fighting for AZ-06!

Meeting with Local Mayors and City Managers.
Our local leaders, such as mayors and city managers, play a crucial role in the success of our communities. During this district work period, one of my top priorities has been to meet with them and hear directly how Congress can assist, so I was thrilled to be able to host my second annual lunch with mayors and city managers from around the district. I also updated them on the work I’ve done for their communities, emphasizing the importance of federal and local governments working together to improve the lives of Arizonans. I provided updates on the funding secured to strengthen water infrastructure, advance construction of the Buffalo Soldier Trail, revitalize Eloy downtown, and construct a much-needed road in the rural town of Pima. I look forward to continuing to work with these community leaders and will keep fighting for more funds to improve our local communities.

Visiting Wholesum Farms.
Agriculture is not only vital to our state’s economy growth and prosperity, it helps feed families across Arizona and the United States. From citrus plant to being the country’s leading producer of winter lettuce, supporting local family farms that have nourished our communities for generations is essential. I recently visited Wholesum Farms in Amado, a multi-generational family farm known for its USDA-certified organic produce and state-of-the-art greenhouses. Family farms like Wholesum keep Arizona at the forefront of agriculture, and it is crucial that Congress continues to support them with the necessary resources to sustain their great work.

Introduced my 10th Veteran Bill.
As a nation, we owe our veterans a tremendous debt of gratitude. When duty called, these brave men and women answered, risking life and limb to defend the freedoms we so closely cherish. I am honored to present my 10th bill dedicated to supporting our veterans. Representing over 70,000 veterans in our district is a duty I hold with the utmost seriousness and commitment. This means advocating for comprehensive healthcare, mental health support, educational opportunities, and employment resources to empower veterans in our community and beyond as they transition back to civilian life. Many veterans over the age of 65 and those who are disabled are enrolled in both Medicare and the VA. Oftentimes, due to a lack of coordination between agencies, dual enrollment can lead to challenges and result in fragmented and more expensive care.
This is exactly why, along with Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (FL-20), who also serves on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, I introduced H.R. 9399, the Coordinating Care for Senior Veterans and Wounded Warriors Act to improve healthcare coordination and management for veterans who receive services through Medicare and the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). This bill would create a three-year pilot program to better coordinate, navigate, and manage healthcare benefits for veterans enrolled in both systems by assigning a case manager to develop individualized healthcare plans that best suit the needs of that veteran as well as ensure the proper delivery of those services. Fighting for our veterans was a top goal of mine when I came to congress and continues to be as I look for new ways to support those who served.

Visited Jewish Community Center.
This week I had the opportunity to visit one of our local Jewish Community centers. This visit was a profound experience, allowing me to connect with members of our vibrant Jewish community and learn more about their rich cultural heritage and contributions to our society. Amid the recent spike in antisemitism, and the tragic killing of six hostages by Hamas over the weekend- including Hersh Goldberg-Polin, an American citizen whose parents I met while in Israel earlier this year, it is very important to me that Jewish people – and people of all faiths and backgrounds - have safe spaces to celebrate their heritage and not face hatred for their religion and background. I am committed to fostering an inclusive environment where diversity is celebrated, and everyone feels valued and respected. By supporting initiatives that promote understanding and unity, we can build a stronger, more compassionate community for all.

Delivering Military Award to Harry V. Hardy.
It was an honor to present Dianne Thomson with her father's military awards. Her father, Harry V. Hardy, earned the Presidential Unit Citation (PUC) for his heroism during World War II. The PUC is awarded to military units that demonstrate exceptional bravery and determination in action, with the level of heroism required being comparable to what would merit an individual a Distinguished Service Cross. Ms. Thomson, now 85 years old, has been working on a flag commemoration display to honor her father's service. I am grateful for her father's service, and his legacy will continue to live on here in AZ-06 and beyond.

Resources for AZ-06 veterans.
The mental well-being of our veterans is a priority for me in Congress. I am grateful for the impact the Be Connected program has had on our community. I recently had to opportunity to meet with this great organization. Being able to hear their stories and see the work they do for veterans firsthand was truly inspiring. This initiative is making a real difference by enhancing access to vital support and resources for over 500,000 service members, veterans, and their families across Arizona. This program plays a crucial role in supporting the 70,000 veterans in #AZ06, ensuring they have the assistance they need. It is critical that we continue to offer programs like this to our veterans so that we can continue to serve those who fought for our freedom.

Meeting with students from Mary Meredith school in Tucson.
Last week, students from Mary Meredith School visited our Tucson office and we gave them a brief tour. I provided an update on the work I’m doing in Congress and had the opportunity to engage with students, teachers, and parents from across the district. It was inspiring to hear their stories and discuss the issues that matter most to our community. Recently, I voted on appropriations for Title I schools, ensuring that schools serving low-income communities, like Mary Meredith School, receive the necessary funding to support their students. I will continue to deliver for our schools in Congress! .png) |

Celebrating Labor Day.
Yesterday we celebrated Labor Day, a time to honor the dedication of American workers, who work tirelessly to build and power our nation’s prosperity. They built the roads, bridges, and waterways that connect America from coast to coast. From construction workers, to teachers, to entrepreneurs and everything in between, our workforce is the bedrock of our nation’s continued success and advancement.
Recently, I introduced the bipartisan Head Start Education and Development Workforce Advancement and Yield Act (H.R. 7467) to alleviate work force shortages and allow teachers to be in the classroom while simultaneously earning their CDA credentials. During my time in Congress, I will continue to fight for the American Dream and fair wages. Your contributions are the backbone of our nation. Hope you enjoyed a well-deserved break! |

Profiles of the American dream:
It’s been said many times by many people but it’s worth repeating: education is the key to the American Dream.
So with that timeless observation in mind, this week we salute the many young women and men from across Arizona’s 6th Congressional District who are beginning their college careers.
Five amazing public institutions of higher learning are in or near our district: the University of Arizona, Pima Community College, Cochise College, Eastern Arizona College and Central Arizona College.
These institutions, by providing their students with the knowledge and skills they need to get ahead, are making the American Dream possible.
UA just welcomed its largest and most diverse class in university history - more than 9,300 first-year students, including a record 4,900 Arizona residents. Notably, about 28 percent of that incoming class self-identify as first-generation college students.
At Pima, nearly 18,000 students have registered for fall classes, an increase in enrollment for the seventh consecutive semester.
And at Cochise, this year marks the college’s 60th anniversary of educating the residents of our state’s southeasternmost county.
We wish each and every one of our college students all the best as they embark on the next chapter of their education journey..png) |
