A Weekly Note from Rep. Ciscomani.

After six very productive weeks in the district, we were back in Washington this past week.  From meeting with groups of constituents to voting on important legislation that protects our farmland from our adversaries overseas, it was a packed week back in Washington!

Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony.

Last week, in the Capitol Rotunda, we hosted a Congressional Gold Medal ceremony to honor the 13 service members who tragically lost their lives during the withdrawal from Afghanistan. These courageous individuals made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country. This tribute is a recognition of their bravery and dedication. As a nation, we are profoundly grateful for their service. May their legacy inspire us to recommit ourselves to the values they fought to protect and to support all those who serve. We will always remember these brave individuals and their service to our nation.

Honoring and Remembering the Victims of 9/11.

Last week, on the 23rd anniversary of the September 11th attacks, I delivered a speech on the floor of the House of Representatives to honor and remember the innocent lives lost and the countless first responders who selflessly put the lives of others above their own. This tragic event, the deadliest attack to our homeland in American history, changed our nation - and world - forever. While the terrorists aimed to break America’s resolve, in the days and months following the attack our nation came together with a renewed sense of unity. We will always remember the lives lost that day and remain forever grateful to the brave first responders who put themselves in harm’s way to help others on that fateful day.

Meeting With Farmers and Ranchers.

I met with farmers to discuss the importance of passing the Farm Bill. America’s farmers are critical drivers of our nation’s economy and success, and Congress must work to address their needs. Recently, farms have faced difficulties hiring farm workers and I wanted to hear directly from those who grow our nation’s food to know how Congress can be of assistance. Their insights are invaluable as we work together to ensure the agricultural sector thrives. Food security is national security, we must make sure our farmers are taken care of!

Franchisee Meeting.

Last week I was also able to meet with Tim from Thatcher to discuss H.J.Res. 98 and my efforts defend our franchises and small businesses from burdensome federal regulation that will do nothing to support our entrepreneurs and job creators. I emphasized the importance of reducing red tape and fostering an environment where small businesses can thrive. Our small businesses and specifically franchisees need to be allowed to flourish not disenfranchised by their own government. Supporting our small businesses is crucial for economic growth and job creation in our communities.

Protecting American Farmland.

During my first week back in Washington, I voted on a crucial piece of legislation, H.R. 9456, the Protecting American Agriculture from Foreign Adversaries Act of 2024. Introduced by Representative Newhouse (WA-04), this bill aims to provide oversight and prevent foreign adversaries, such as China, from purchasing critical U.S. farmland. Our farmland is one of our most valuable resources, and it is essential to safeguard it. This legislation is a significant step towards ensuring the security and sustainability of our nation’s agricultural resources. I am pleased to report that this legislation passed the House with bipartisan support.

Supporting Outdoor Recreation.

I had the pleasure of meeting with Hispanics Enjoying Camping, Hunting, and Outdoors (HECHO) to discuss vital conservation efforts at the Great Bend of Gila, their advocacy for the Chiricahua National Park Act, and water resiliency initiatives throughout the Colorado River basin. Protecting the natural beauty of our great state is essential, and I was proud to introduce the Chiricahua National Park Act (H.R. 1479) and commend organizations like HECHO for their dedication to preserving our natural wonders. I look forward to collaborating with HECHO and other community partners to ensure that our natural resources are preserved for future generations to enjoy.

Profiles of the American Dream.

“A College Rises in the Desert”

That was headline back in the summer of 1964 to an Arizona Republic story about a new institution of higher learning under construction in southeastern Arizona.

The first day of classes was only weeks away for what was then called Cochise Junior College. The campus that was taking shape on 40 acres between Bisbee and Douglas wasn’t even complete, but a long-held dream was about to become reality.

Not only did that college rise, it has thrived.

Today, as Cochise College marks its 60th anniversary, it has more than 10,000 students and is nationally recognized for academic excellence.

Like community colleges everywhere, Cochise College specializes in providing accessible educational opportunities.

Happy Birthday, Cochise College. You make the American Dream possible.
