Remembering October 7th.

One year ago on Oct. 7, the world watched in horror as Hamas terrorists invaded Israel to inflict the worst attack against the Jewish people since the Holocaust.

Tanner House Construction.

I was proud and honored to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a home designed to meet the mobility needs of U.S. Army Sergeant Tanner House, who sustained a spinal injury during his service. This new home, made possible through the nonprofit organization Helping a Hero and a partnership with Lennar Homes, includes adaptations such as a shower bench, grab bars, and accessible appliances to accommodate Sergeant House’s physical needs and provide him with a comfortable living space for years to come. With over 70,000 veterans in our district, I am proud to support initiatives like this that honor and give back to our nation’s heroes.

Lucid Motors Monthly Meeting.

I attended the all-hands monthly meeting at Lucid to learn more about their innovative technology. I will continue to work to ensure that southern Arizona remains a hub for clean energy innovation. During the meeting, I was impressed by the advancements Lucid is making in electric vehicle manufacturing and shared insights on my legislative efforts, such as signing onto a letter to leadership asking them to not repeal the clean energy tax credits. As one of the largest employers in Pinal County, Lucid provides quality jobs and drives the local economy forward. It was a productive session, and I look forward to continuing our collaboration to drive innovation and economic growth in southern Arizona.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I stand in solidarity with those who are currently battling breast cancer, those who are in remission, and in remembrance of those we have lost to this devastating disease. Breast cancer affects countless lives, and it is crucial that we continue to raise awareness and support research for better treatments and a cure. This is why I co-sponsored the Metastatic Breast Cancer Access to Care Act (H.R. 549) to eliminate the waiting periods for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Medicare benefits, ensuring that patients receive the timely support and care they deserve. This bill will help alleviate some of the burdens faced by individuals and families affected by metastatic breast cancer. Together, we can make a difference in the fight against breast cancer and support those battling this disease.

Tucson Emerging Leaders.

I was proud to speak at the Tucson Metro Chamber’s Emerging Leaders meeting, where I had the opportunity to engage with a dynamic group of young professionals. This dedicated group meets monthly to discuss Tucson’s business climate, address local challenges, and brainstorm innovative ways to improve our community. I am thrilled to see that Tucson’s future is in such capable hands, and I look forward to witnessing the incredible contributions these emerging leaders will make to our city.

American Dream Op-Ed.

I recently co-authored an op-ed in The Washington Times with my colleague, Rep. Dan Newhouse, on the need to make the American Dream attainable again.

As an immigrant, and a proud husband, father, and now a Member of Congress, my story is just one example of the American Dream. Unfortunately, our broken economy and a rising cost of living has made this dream more difficult to achieve. In Congress, I am committed to using my position on the House Appropriations Committee to reign in wasteful spending, reduce regulatory burdens, invest in education and workforce development, and promote entrepreneurship, so we can create an environment where all Americans have the opportunity to succeed. It is imperative that we take bipartisan action to ensure that the American Dream remains within reach for everyone.

Profiles of the American Dream.

Tanner House was a sergeant serving in Afghanistan as a member of the U.S. Army’s 10th Special Forces Group when his life took a dramatic turn.

An accident aboard his Chinook helicopter crushed his lower spine, causing a degenerative condition that will eventually make it impossible to get around without a wheelchair.

But Tanner’s story doesn’t end there.

A groundbreaking was held last week in Sahuarita after several organizations came together to provide Tanner with a new mortgage-free home. The new residence is being built with his specific needs in mind, including customized counters, cabinets, light switches and restrooms.

"It's an important part of the American dream to own a house and land and property, or whatever you want to call it," Tanner told the Green Valley News. "And now, having that as a thank you for your service, there are no words that can really describe it, to be honest with you. It's something straight out of a TV show or movie."

Thank you, Tanner! You make the American Dream possible.
