Veterans Day.

Veterans Day is a special occasion dedicated to honoring the brave men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Representing over 70,000 veterans in AZ06, I am deeply grateful for their sacrifices and commitment to preserving our freedoms. Across the nation, communities come together with ceremonies, parades, and moments of silence to pay tribute to these heroes. Veterans Day serves as a powerful reminder of the courage and dedication of those who have protected our country. Let us always remember and honor their contributions, not just on Veterans Day, but every day.

Sky Islands Regional Partnership's Bring a Vet to Lunch.

One of my team members attended the Sky Islands Regional Partnership's Bring a Vet to Lunch event to honor the brave individuals who served and sacrificed for our freedoms. The lunch paid tribute to veterans of all ages, with a special cake cutting for the youngest and oldest in attendance. The Military Affairs Committee (MAC) also announced their new name, the Military Community Alliance, a group of chamber members who advocate for the importance of the local partnership with Fort Huachuca. The event was a great honor for those recognized by General Richard Applehans, their peers, superiors, and the community.

Cosponsored the Preserving Access to Home Health Act.

I recently cosponsored H.R. 5159, the Preserving Access to Home Health Act, to ensure seniors have access to home health care by preserving adequate coverage and funding for services delivered to patients while at home. This is essential to keeping our loved ones at home and lessening the burden on skilled nursing facilities. Specifically, it repeals lower payment adjustments for home health services under Medicare and improves oversight for quality of care. By preserving coverage and funding, home health companies will be able to operate more effectively under Medicare, especially in rural areas. With inflation raising the cost of care, this legislation provides crucial to supporting our health care providers and ensuring better care for all.

Flag Laying at the Veterans’ Cemetery in Marana.

As Representative to over 70,000 veterans in AZ-06, it was my honor and privilege to place flags at the Veterans' Cemetery in Marana in honor of Veterans' Day. This heartfelt tradition is a powerful way to pay tribute to those who served and sacrificed for our country. Veterans are our nation's heroes, and participating in this ceremony alongside community members was a moving experience.

Rockin 4 Heroes Concert.

My family and I attended the Rocking 4 Heroes Concert dedicated to first responders, active-duty military, veterans, and Gold Star Families to honor their dedication and service. Launched in honor of PJ Quinn, who passed away from bone cancer, the event commemorates his memory and the tireless efforts of our first responders. The proceeds will support meaningful organizations like Dogs 4 Vets and Strength & Shield, reinforcing their crucial work. Highlights included a presentation of the nation's colors by Women Warriors, an exhilarating jet flyover from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, and numerous booths from various agencies. It was a day of heartfelt tributes and community solidarity.

29th Annual Sierra Vista Veterans’ Day Ceremony.

On Monday, I had the privilege of spending the morning in Sierra Vista for their 29th Annual Veterans Day ceremony. I was honored to recognize the brave men and women who answered duty’s call and served our country. Our gratitude extends to the veterans hailing from various parts of AZ-06 who were honored during the ceremony. Their sacrifices are a solemn reminder that freedom is never free. To the men and women who have fought for our country: thank you for your service!

Environment & Energy Congressional Round-Up
Environmental & Energy Study Institute
“The House Committee on Natural Resources passed the Critical Mineral Consistency Act of 2024 (H.R.8446). Led by Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R-Ariz.), the bill would consolidate the U.S. Geological Survey’s (USGS’s) and Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) respective lists of critical minerals and materials— including those essential to the clean energy transition. This would ensure that DOE-listed materials are afforded the same clean energy tax credits and other federal support as their USGS-listed counterparts. Sens. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.) and Mike Lee (R-Utah) introduced a Senate companion bill (S.5274) in September.”

Sinema & Lee Introduce the Critical Mineral Consistency Act
Senator Sinema
“Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema and Republican Senator Mike Lee (Utah) introduced the Senate companion to the Critical Mineral Consistency Act. This legislation adds Critical Materials, as defined by the Department of Energy, to the statutory definition of Critical Minerals as defined by the U.S. Geological Survey. This bill aims to ensure consistency between the two lists and streamline the permitting process for vital mining projects. The House version was introduced by Republican Representative Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06).”

Profiles of the American Dream.

Madelin Verhoest could be the oldest living resident and the oldest living veteran of Graham County.

The Safford resident turns 104 on November 15 and she’ll mark the occasion in grand style – as the grand marshal in the town’s annual Veteran's Day Parade.
Born in New Jersey to Italian immigrants, Madelin was one of 11 children. When duty called, she did what so many members of the Greatest Generation did. She put on a uniform.

During World War II, Madelin served as a corporal in the U.S. Army's Women's Army Corps, where she worked as a surgical technician.

According to The National WWII Museum, women contributed to winning the war in countless ways. They entered the workforce in numbers larger than ever before, they volunteered for organizations like the American Red Cross and they served in the Armed Forces. Madelin was among the 350,000 women who served and their example continues to inspire us.

The American Dream is alive and well today thanks to patriots like Madelin Verhoest.
