Remembering One of Southern Arizona's Most Influential Leaders.

Laura and I are deeply saddened by the news of Marana Mayor Ed Honea’s sudden passing. One of southern Arizona’s most influential leaders, Ed was a dear friend of ours and a devoted public servant who cared deeply about the residents of Marana. His leadership was instrumental in the development of Marana and his legacy will continue to have a positive impact on his community long into the future. Today our community lost a great leader, and I lost a great friend. Laura and I are praying for his family and loved ones.

Passing a Key Piece of Legislation Helping Our Veterans.

As a proud member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, I am thrilled that my legislation, the Senator Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act (H.R. 8371), passed the House of Representatives with a vote of 389-9, showing overwhelming bipartisan support.

This bill reforms and modernizes the VA, cuts unnecessary red tape, expands access to job training and employment opportunities, addresses veteran homelessness, and improves the delivery of care and benefits, whether at the VA or in your community. I worked closely with leaders on the House and Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committees to ensure this legislation meets the needs of our veterans. As it now heads to the Senate, I urge my colleagues to swiftly consider it before the end of the year. Our veterans deserve nothing less than our full support and commitment.

Welcoming U.S. Border Patrol Agents to Washington D.C.

U.S. Border Patrol Agents work tirelessly on the frontlines to ensure the safety and security of our communities. I had the distinct honor of welcoming US Border Patrol Agents from the Tucson Sector to my office and having my team give them a tour of the Capitol building.  It was an honor to meet with them to express my gratitude for their dedication and service. The Capitol, with its rich history and grandeur, is a symbol of the very freedom and security they protect.

If you find yourself in Washington, D.C., please don't hesitate to reach out to my office for a Capitol Tour. It would be my pleasure to host you and share this experience! Sign up to tour the Capitol here!

Advocating for AZ-06's Health and Social Security Needs.

As your representative for AZ-06, I recently participated in two hearings with the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services (LHHS) to advocate for our district's needs. At the first hearing, I questioned National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director Monica M. Bertagnolli, M.D., emphasizing the importance of increasing engagement in women's health research and ensuring greater Hispanic representation in Alzheimer’s and cancer related research. I highlighted the world leading efforts at the University of Arizona and encouraged support for these initiatives. Watch my remarks here.

At the second hearing, I questioned Social Security Administration Commissioner Martin O'Malley about enhancing efficiency and customer service for retirees, low-income families, and individuals with disabilities. Ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of Social Security is a top priority, and I am committed to supporting measures that improve service delivery and uphold the promises made to our citizens.

Meeting with Students From Leman Academy - Marana.

Last week, I welcomed Leman Academy’s 8th grade class to the Capitol! These students were incredibly sharp and inspiring, giving me great confidence in the future of AZ-06. They traveled all the way from Marana to Washington, and I was delighted to make time to say hello while they were in town! I had the pleasure of sharing some insights about our government, and it was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and curiosity about the legislative process. Their thoughtful questions and eagerness to learn were truly uplifting. Thank you, Leman Academy, for making the trip, and I look forward to seeing the incredible things these students will accomplish!

USDOT Award Ceremony.

I recently had the honor of speaking at the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) awards ceremony in Safford, celebrating the over $1 million grant awarded to the city. This significant investment, facilitated by the Natural Gas Distribution Infrastructure Safety and Modernization (NGDISM) program, will replace 2,298 aging gas meter assemblies and acquire methane leak detection equipment, enhancing efficiency, safety, and reliability. I am thrilled to have advocated for this grant and see such vital support coming to this rural community. It was wonderful to join Mayor Richard Ortega and USDOT Director of Natural Gas Distribution Infrastructure Safety and Modernization Program Shakira Mack in recognizing this achievement. This grant represents a major milestone for Safford, ensuring a safer and more sustainable future for its residents. Congratulations to the City of Safford on this well-deserved accomplishment!

Coaching Flag Football.

Coming home to coach flag football is one of the highlights of my week. My favorite place to be on the weekends is on the field, instilling values of hard work, discipline, teamwork, respect, and of course, celebrating wins with the kids. It's truly inspiring to see these young athletes give their all, both on and off the field. There's a special joy in balancing my duties serving Arizona's 6th congressional district with the passion I have for coaching in the flag football league. Nothing beats the satisfaction of watching these kids grow and succeed through the sport.

Profiles of the American Dream.

Few holidays capture the essence of the American Dream like Thanksgiving. So this week, as we prepare to celebrate this uniquely American holiday, it’s worth reflecting on the proclamation that got it all started. It was issued by President Abraham Lincoln in October 1863, just a few months after the Battle of Gettysburg.
