Visiting the Oval Office.

Laura and I were deeply honored to visit the Oval Office for the first time to meet with President Donald Trump. This was a surreal moment and reminded me of a story my dad told me when I first decided to run for Congress. He said “Son, where else could we have this story. We immigrated to the United States, learned English and became U.S. citizens. I drove a bus my whole life and now my son has the opportunity to become a member of Congress to represent the community that gave us a chance at the American Dream.” Now, I’ve had the chance to visit the Oval Office and meet with the President of the United States. Only in America!

House Budget Resolution.

Last week, I voted in favor of H. Con. Res. 14, the House Budget Resolution for Fiscal Year 2025 to outline saving targets and begin the process of reducing waste in the federal government. There is no question that the government has become too big and bloated, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic, so now we must make tough choices to right-size our fiscal health. The United States is $36 trillion in debt and growing every day. This is unsustainable and puts the prosperity of future generations at risk.

At the same time, we have to protect, and in some cases expand, critical programs that my constituents and millions of Americans rely on. This is why I met with the Speaker and House leadership multiple times last week to express my belief that certain programs, such as Medicaid, SNAP, and Pell grants should not be slashed. We must be careful and intentional to make these programs work better for the people they were designed to help. The real work starts now, and I will be sure to update you every step of the way. Introduced the VETS Opportunity Act.

Our veterans are our nation’s heroes. When they hang up their uniform and transition back into civilian life, we must repay their service by ensuring they have the opportunity to thrive and succeed.

This is why, as a member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee and Representative to nearly 80,000 veterans, I introduced the Veterans Education and Technical Skills (VETS) Opportunity Act (H.R. 1458). This commonsense effort would expand opportunities for veterans to access high-demand skilled trade and vocational programs, both in-person and partially online. This not only improves the way veterans access their benefits, it also sets them up for success and helps tackle the current workforce shortage in skilled trades.

Thanking our First Responders.

Our first responders always go above and beyond the call of duty to protect our communities and keep us safe. Their dedication and commitment to service is truly inspiring. I was so grateful to share a few words during Green Valley’s Third Annual First Responders Fair to give thanks for all they have done to protect our communities. On behalf of AZ-06, thank you for your service.

Honoring Kurt Kreutz's Lifetime of Service.

It was my privilege to honor Kurt Kreutz’s lifetime of service as a law enforcement officer and wish him all the best on his well-deserved retirement. Born and raised on the northwest side of Tucson, Kurt served honorably for 45 years in many critical roles, including as a Uniform Patrol, Metro Narcotics Undercover, SWAT, and the DEA Task Force. In 1991, he was promoted to Sergeant, where he played a pivotal role in the department’s first BRAVO Unit and the Neighborhood Crimes Detective Unit.

Kurt’s contribution to our community have been recognized with multiple awards, such as 88 Crime TPD Officer of the Year and Father of the Year by Tucson Lifestyle Magazine — a testament to his devotion not only to his career but also to his family. Kurt, thank you for all you’ve done, and all you continue to do for our community. I wish you all the best in your retirement. God bless you. Listen to my floor speech here. If you know someone in our community who should be honored with a floor speech, please reach out to my team through our website here!

Visiting Scouting America Troop 219.

Scouting is a great way to gain valuable life skills and learn the values of duty, service, and honor. Whether it was organizing a donation drive, cleaning and restoring a local landmark, camping, hiking or helping your neighbors, Scouting is a great way to give back to your community.

I was delighted to speak at Scouting America Troop 219 Leadership Clinic and present Liam Doherty with a Certificate of Congressional Recognition for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout!

Receiving the Seal of the U.S. Coast Guard.

I was honored to have members of the U.S. Coast Guard stop by my office to present me with their seal! While they are our nation’s primary maritime law enforcement agency tasked with defending our coasts, did you know they also do vital work protecting our southern border by patrolling the Rio Grande for migrants and drug trafficking?
From Laura, me, and all of AZ-06, thank you for your incredible service!

Arizona Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

In southern Arizona, and across the United States, there is a critical need for additional housing units. It was great to meet with the Arizona Chapter of the American Institute of Architects to talk about solutions to address this shortage and increase the supply of housing!

In Congress, I recently introduced the Creating Opportunities for New Skills Training at Rural and Underserved Colleges and Trade Schools (CONSTRUCTS) Act (H.R. 1055). This effort would create a grant program to fund and develop residential construction education and certification programs at community colleges, junior colleges, and trade schools. This would expand access to good-paying, high-demand jobs for students, address the shortage of skilled construction workers, and allow developers to build more homes, ultimately lowering housing costs.

In the News.

Q&A: Ciscomani looks at Trump's first four weeks
Eastern Arizona Courier
"President Trump’s first month of his second term was marked by more than 70 executive orders that had some Americans cheering and others predicting the demise of democracy. U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani, whose sprawling District 6 includes Green Valley, part of Sahuarita and five counties, addressed some of those concerns as well as goals he has for his own second term. Some questions and answers are paraphrased and edited for space. The interview took place on Feb. 19."

Profile of the American Dream.

Among the most inspiring examples of the American Dream are the young women and men from southeastern Arizona who’ve decided to continue their education at one of our country’s prestigious service academies.

Over the past two years, nearly 100 high school students from the 6th Congressional District have expressed an interest in attending a service academy. We applaud their patriotism.

But getting into an institution like West Point or Annapolis is no easy feat. It requires top grades, strong leadership skills and a willingness to serve in the Armed Forces. Once you’ve checked those boxes, you still need to make it through an intensely competitive admissions process and earn a hard-to-get nomination from a member of Congress.

The 24 local students who’ve made the cut are the best of the best. They are the next generation of American fighter pilots, ship commanders and infantry officers.

I am proud to acknowledge these future military leaders in my Tucson District Office. It is a small but necessary tribute to a truly amazing group.
