Ensuring Our Heroes Receive their Purple Heart Award.
When a service member answers the call of duty, they write a blank check to the United States in service to our nation and their fellow citizens. When it's time to hang up their uniform and return home, our veterans deserve proper recognition for their time in service. However, too often, veterans may be denied the awards they deserve due to burdensome regulation and a lack of documentation, often through no fault of their own.
This is why, as a member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, I led a bipartisan group of my colleagues in sending a letter to Secretary of the Army Daniel Driscoll urging him to review regulations and provide greater flexibility so that eligible veterans and service members can receive one of our nation’s most distinguished military honors, the Purple Heart.

Arizona leads the way in the production of clean energy technologies. As your Congressman, I will continue to pursue an all-of-the-above approach that invests in innovation and supports domestic energy production, all while balancing the need to reduce emissions and steward the environment.
I am proud to be named as Vice Chair of the Conservative Climate Caucus and look forward to working with Chairwoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-02) to grow this important group and drive policies that enhance energy security, create jobs, and promote a more sustainable future.

Expanding Access to Service Dogs for our Veterans.
For decades, service dogs have played a critical role supporting the brave men and women who served by providing the care, companionship, and assistance they need to navigate and thrive during their daily life.
I was proud to join House Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs Chairman Morgan Luttrell (TX-08) and fellow members of Congress in a press conference in support of the Service Dogs Assisting Veterans Act (H.R. 2605), which I am proud to be a co-sponsor of. This legislation will create a grant program within the VA to provide funding for programs that train and provide service dogs to veterans with disabilities such as blindness, traumatic brain injuries, paralysis, PTSD, and more.

Protecting Medicaid.
While I support efforts to rein in wasteful spending and make the government smaller and more efficient, I am against slashing or underfunding critical programs that my constituents, and millions of Americans rely on. As Vice Chair of Member Services for the Congressional Hispanic Conference, I joined a group of colleagues in a letter to Speaker Mike Johnson urging him to ensure that essential programs like Medicaid, Pell Grants (which I am a recipient of), and SNAP benefits are protected from harmful cuts that would undermine their ability to deliver the critical services many Americans rely on. Humane Society Award.
As a dog owner myself, I will always fight for tougher protections and stronger enforcement to ensure animals are safe from cruelty and neglect and ensure that anyone who causes harm is held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
I was honored to receive the Human Champion Award from the Humane World Action Fund for my work strengthening federal animal welfare laws. Recently, I co-led the Animal Cruelty Enforcement (ACE) Act (H.R. 1477) to create a dedicated Animal Cruelty Crimes Section within the Department of Justice (DOJ) to strengthen investigation and prosecution of these heinous crimes.

Trico’s 80th Anniversary.
I was proud to speak at Trico Electric Cooperative Annual Meeting to provide them an update on my work in Congress supporting clean energy initiatives and to celebrate their 80th anniversary – an incredible milestone!
From humble beginnings to serving over 50,000 members, Trico provides power to rural communities and fast-growing towns across our district. Their commitment to innovation, sustainability, and service has made them a cornerstone of Southern Arizona’s energy future, and I look forward to continuing our partnership to ensure reliable, affordable, and clean energy for generations to come.

Helping our Seniors Avoid Scams.
The advancement of technology, combined with the development of artificial intelligence (AI) have transformed robocalls from an occasional nuisance into a powerful tool used by scammers and bad actors to try and defraud my constituents, particularly seniors, out of their hard-earned money.
I know my constituents are fed up with these calls, which is why I am proud to partner with Rep. Eric Sorensen (IL-17) to introduce the Quashing Unwanted and Interruptive Electronic Telecommunications (QUIET) Act (H.R. 1027) to require robocalls to disclose when AI technology is being utilized and increase penalties on anyone who uses this technology to impersonate individuals or entities with the intent to defraud, cause harm, or obtain anything of value. I am grateful to have the support of the AARP on this critical legislation to protect seniors in my district against malicious scams like these.

Profiles of the American Dream.
It’s hard to separate volunteering from the American Dream. Benjamin Franklin formed the first volunteer fire department in 1736. A century later, the historian and philosopher Alexis de Tocqueville marveled at our young nation’s ability to use volunteers to get things done.
Not much has changed. You don’t have to search far and wide for examples of the amazing work that can be accomplished thanks to people willing to give their time to a cause they believe in.
Case in point: the White Elephant thrift store in Green Valley. Thanks to an army of community-minded volunteers, the White Elephant gives away nearly $2 million a year to local schools, fire departments and dozens of other worthwhile organizations. Over the past 60 years, it has given away more than $36 million.
This remarkable display of civic generosity wouldn’t be possible without the White Elephant’s more than 500 reliable volunteers. Among them is Jack King, a 93-year-old retiree who moved to Green Valley from California 32 years ago. This month he celebrated 30 years of volunteering at the store.
"He's a dedicated man for sure," Chris Cota, the general manager, told the Green Valley News recently. "I've never seen him with a mad look on his face, always has a smile. And that right there is a little motivation to me too, because if he can last here for 30 years at this place with a smile on his face, there's got to be something good."
Jack spent his first 25 years as a volunteer on the store’s truck, picking up second-hand clothing, furniture and other donations from throughout the Green Valley/Sahuarita area. He’s been working in the patio department for the past five years and has no plans to scale back.
“I just enjoy it too much to leave," he says.
Can’t help but think that Ben Franklin himself would love this story.
