Meeting with VA Secretary.
Caring for those who served our country and defended our freedoms is a solemn responsibility I do not take lightly. I will always work to form strong partnerships focused on delivering for our veterans.
Last week, it was an honor to host Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins in Tucson to reiterate our shared commitment to serving our veterans and push back against false claims about cuts to mission critical positions, healthcare, and benefits within the VA. Despite what you may hear, I want to be crystal clear—the Secretary and I are focused on reforming and improving the VA to make it more effective and efficient for our veterans. Secretary Collins and I want to make sure that veterans in Arizona, and across the country, can receive the best possible care in a timely way.
During his visit, the Secretary met with my Veterans Advisory Council, spoke with Tucson VA Medical Center leadership, and toured the facilities. The Tucson VA Medical Center provides an excellent standard of care to our veterans, and I was proud to showcase the dedicated staff and innovative programs that make this facility a model for VA healthcare nationwide.

Protecting Medicaid.
While I support reducing waste and implementing common sense reforms, like work requirements and stronger eligibility verification, that enhance Medicaid’s ability to deliver for vulnerable populations, I do not support reducing healthcare coverage for those the program was intended to serve. I am glad to have received support for my efforts to protect Medicaid from local and national stakeholders. You can find a detailed list of support here.
I recently joined a group of fellow Republicans in a letter to House Republican leadership and Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Brett Guthrie making it clear that I cannot, and will not, vote for legislation that reduces Medicaid benefits for single mothers, the working poor, the elderly, and those with disabilities.
You can read more about my commitment to protect Medicaid here.

Standing with the Business Community in Support of Tax Cuts.
Letting the 2017 tax cuts expire at the end of the year would raise taxes, hitting families and businesses where it hurts the most – their pocketbooks.
I joined the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the newly formed Chamber of Southern Arizona in a roundtable to express our shared support for extending the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act to maintain pro-growth policies that are creating opportunities and driving our economy forward.
After the roundtable, I spoke to an energized room of nearly 700 attendees for the kickoff lunch for the Chamber of Southern Arizona, a new organization formed by the merger of Sun Corridor Inc and the Tucson Metro Chamber. Conversations with local business owners and employers are essential and make me a better, more informed member of Congress. I am grateful to the U.S. Chamber and the Chamber of Southern Arizona for hosting these important events.

In particular, I want to honor Pima Community College – my alma mater – Cochise College, Eastern Arizona College, and Central Arizona College for their incredible work in our communities. You can watch my speech here or by clicking below.

Carondelet St. Mary’s Hospital.
Our hospitals and healthcare workers are a lifeline to patients and ensure timely, compassionate, and quality care when it’s needed most.

Their unwavering commitment to care has played a central role in ensuring our community remains happy and healthy. A big thank you to Carondelet Health Network and the entire staff for their dedication to our community. Jewish Latino Teen Coalition.
I am a proud immigrant. As the first naturalized citizen from Mexico to represent Arizona in any federal office, I have firsthand experience with how cumbersome and slow the immigration process can be. In Congress, I am committed to improving this system so that more families like mine can have their opportunity to come to this country and chase their American Dream.
I had a great meeting with the Jewish Latino Teen Coalition to discuss my work in Congress to improve and streamline our immigration process and my strong support for providing a pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients. The Jewish Latino Coalition is a fantastic program that brings together Latino and Jewish students to foster civic engagement, enhance cultural understanding, and learn to advocate for policies in Capitol Hill.

American Dream Story.
“Leadership is never a solo process or achievement.”
Those wise words come from Jason Bowling, the man at the helm of the Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Co-Op, a not for profit, member-owned cooperative that keeps the lights on for thousands of customers in Cochise, Graham, Pima and Santa Cruz counties.
Jason has been with the company for nearly 20 years and CEO since 2022. He was recently honored by the Sky Islands Regional Partnership with its prestigious Excellence in Leadership Award.
It’s easy to see why. Service and putting people first are at the heart of Jason’s approach. He’s the kind of leader who trusts his employees, values community partnerships and likes to listen more than he speaks.
“Leadership, at its core, isn’t about commanding or controlling,” he wrote last week in a guest opinion published in the Sierra Vista Herald/Review. “It’s about listening, encouraging, and creating the conditions where people feel safe to share ideas, take risks, and grow.”
Ideas, risks and growth – three ingredients to the American Dream.
