Commemorating Memorial Day.
As your Congressman, representing 80,000 veterans and thousands of servicemembers who call our district home is a solemn responsibility I do not take lightly. As we commemorate Memorial Day, let us pause to give thanks to all who answered duty’s call and made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their fellow citizens and our great nation. Their commitment, dedication and sacrifice were made in defense of our freedoms and way of life and must never be forgotten. Let us also remember the families of the fallen, who carry not only the weight of their loss, but the same spirit of service that defined their loved one’s time in uniform. Today, and every day, we mourn for your loss, and pledge to honor their legacy with our thoughts and actions. Over the weekend, my family and I carried out our tradition of placing flags at the Arizona Veterans’ Memorial in Marana, where 3,758 veterans, spouses, and dependent rest in peace. As a nation, may we always be thankful for their service and sacrifice.

Voting for the "One Big Beautiful Bill".
Last week, I voted YES on H.R. 1, which will strengthen border security, cut taxes for working families and seniors, protect Medicaid for vulnerable individuals, and more. Here’s how: 1.) It bolsters border security personnel resources by adding 10,000 new ICE personnel, 5,000 new customs officers, 3,000 new Border Patrol agents, and $10,000 annual bonuses for frontline agents over the next 4 years. This will be beneficial for border efforts in AZ-06! 2.) The bill also finishes President Donald J. Trump's border wall—securing 701 miles of primary wall, 900 miles of river barriers, 629 miles of secondary barriers, and 141 miles of vehicle and pedestrian barriers. This is a major step to stop fentanyl from pouring in and will protect our communities, like Cochise County, by enforcing the rule of law at the border. 3.) The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is extended in this bill to maintain a pro-growth tax code and prevent the largest tax increase in American history, which would cost families in my district an extra $1,480 in taxes every year. 4.) The bill also delivers on two key promises from President Donald J. Trump no tax on tips and no tax on overtime. It’s real tax relief for hardworking Americans, putting more money where it matters most—their paychecks. 5.) It protects Medicaid for our most vulnerable—single moms, the disabled, the elderly, and the needy will continue to receive care. It also roots out waste, fraud, and abuse by implementing stronger eligibility verification and work requirements for able-bodied adults with no dependents. 6.) The bill will modernize air traffic control systems and help prevent tragedies like the mid-air crash near Marana Regional Airport in February. It equips our airports—including smaller, rural ones—with the tools they need to ensure Americans are flying safely and efficiently! Bottom Line: H.R. 1 is about delivering results for Arizona and for America. From securing the border to cutting taxes and protecting vital programs like Medicaid, this bill puts hardworking Americans first and moves our country forward

Ensuring Medicaid Coverage is Protected for our Most Vulnerable.
H.R. 1 delivers on promises I’ve fought HARD for: 1.) Protects Medicaid for the vulnerable like single moms, the disabled, the elderly, and others
2.) Adds work requirements and stronger eligibility checks to root out waste, fraud, and abuse Here’s how we got it done:
On Feb. 19, I joined Congressional Hispanic Conference Members in urging House leadership to rein in wasteful spending while maintaining the integrity of programs critical to people back home in our district and millions of Americans—like Medicaid, Pell Grants, and SNAP. Read more here.

On Apr. 14, I joined 12 other colleagues in a letter to House leadership stating that others and I would not vote for a bill that included reduced Medicaid coverage for vulnerable populations. More about this letter here.

On Apr. 24, I joined the AZ delegation at the Arizona Chamber’s Capitol Hill Update, where I reaffirmed my commitment to protecting Medicaid and called for stronger oversight to reduce waste, fraud, and abuse. Read more about my remarks here.

Over the past few months, I’ve also met with local hospitals, health care professionals, patients, and advocates about the urgent need to protect Medicaid for vulnerable populations in Arizona and nationwide. Here’s what they’re saying about my efforts here.

Throughout this negotiation process for the reconciliation bill, I consistently met with the White House, House Leadership, and our Committee Chairmen, where I made my position clear that I do not support reducing Medicaid benefits for vulnerable populations.

During reconciliation, I pushed to ensure H.R. 1 did not include any of the following changes to Medicaid—changes that would have hurt AZ: no per capita caps, no provider tax cuts, and no FMAP changes. I am grateful for the local partners & hospital leaders that helped me in this process! BOTTOM LINE: Protecting Medicaid isn’t just policy—it’s personal for the countless families who rely on it. I’ll keep fighting to ensure Medicaid stays funded, efficient, and focused on those who need it most. H.R. 1 is a step in the right direction. |

Discussing with Department of State Sec. Marco Rubio.
As a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs, I had the opportunity to ask Secretary of State Marco Rubio about the need to continue cracking down on transnational criminal organizations and drug traffickers and the war in Israel. Watch me question Secretary Rubio about International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Efforts here.

Watch me question Secretary Rubio about the ongoing security funding for cooperation between Israel and Palestinian Authorities here.

Zero to Three’s Strolling Thunder Rally.
As a father of six, I know firsthand how early childhood education and development programs help our children build a strong foundation for their lives. As your Congressman, I am committed to pursuing legislation, funding, and other efforts to expand access to programs like these for children and families in need. It was an honor and privilege to speak at the Zero to Three Strolling Thunder Rally to express my support for Head Start and talk about my work as an appropriator supporting funding for early childhood development programs that help babies and toddlers have a strong start in life that gives them a strong platform to reach their full potential!

Profiles of the American Dream.
“It takes a big heart to help shape little minds.” If that old proverb is true, then there’s no question Stephanie Caffrey has a big heart. Stephanie is a geometry teacher at Marana High School and her work there is – literally – award winning. Stephanie was recently presented with the Teacher Excellence Award by Tucson Values Teachers, a partnership of business leaders, educators and individuals who support PreK-12 teachers in Southern Arizona. The award comes with a $250 cash prize, a $100 gift card to use on classroom supplies and a bouquet of flowers. Four of Stephanie’s former students nominated her for the honor, and that might be the best testament to her talent as a teacher. “Being recognized and seeing that kids are valuing me and appreciating me is a real uplifting moment,” Stephanie says. Congratulations, Stephanie. Teachers like you make the American Dream possible.
