Attending the Arizona Cardinals Civics Matters Program!

Talking with students from Arizona is definitely one of my favorite parts of the job. Our students are the future leaders and innovators of tomorrow, and hearing from them is always deeply inspiring for me.

Laura and I had the honor of attending the Arizona Cardinals’ Civics Matters Program for the second time to engage with 275 students, who greatly impressed us with their smart questions, energy, and commitment to civic engagement! I see a lot of myself in these students. I was so proud to share my own American Dream story and affirm my belief that anyone, no matter their background, can climb as high as they can dream as long as they are willing to put in the work.

You can listen to my full speech here and my interview with KTAR’s Mike Broomhead here.

Standing with our Jewish Community.

The recent horrific attack against peaceful demonstrators in Boulder, Colorado, is yet another alarming reminder of the rise in antisemitism and hate that has taken place since the October 7 attack against Israel – the deadliest day for Jewish people since the Holocaust.

In Congress, I am proud to stand in support of the Jewish community, which is why I am a proud co-sponsor of H. Res. 472 to unequivocally and strongly condemn this vile act of terrorism and stand firmly against hate in all its forms, wherever and whenever it may arise.

Spoke at the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute.

When I was in college, I had the opportunity to intern on Capitol Hill, a fantastic experience which instilled in me a passion for civics and politics. It was here where I met and fell in love with my wife Laura, who was also an intern. My time as an intern not only shaped my career, but it also shaped my American Dream.

I was extremely grateful for the opportunity to speak at the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute’s (CHLI) Future Leaders Conference, where I shared my story and my passion for helping create pathways and opportunities for young Hispanic men and women to find success in their career.

Questioned FAA Acting Administrator.

As a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD), I spoke with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Acting Administrator Chris Rocheleau about the need for more resources to help airports address critical safety upgrades. This includes the new control tower at Pinal Airpark in our district, which will enhance traffic coordination, improve communication, and strengthen safety overall.

Tucson Association of Realtors.

I firmly believe that having a place to call home is a fundamental part of the American Dream. During this National Homeownership Month, I met with the Tucson Association of Realtors to discuss ways to boost housing production, make homes more affordable, break down barriers, and open the door to more opportunities for homeownership.

Retail Theft Letter.

Every year, businesses in my district, and across the United States, lose millions of dollars’ worth of merchandise due to organized retail theft. This is unacceptable and unduly impacts our small businesses, who are not equipped to cover these losses.
I joined a bipartisan group of colleagues in a letter to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi urging the Department of Justice to prioritize investigation and prosecutions of anyone who is involved in organized retail theft.

Profiles of the American Dream.

The USA’s 250th birthday right around the corner so the time is right to shine our American Dream spotlight on a local organization with a noble mission: Honor Flight Southern Arizona.

Honor Flight exists to pay tribute to our nation’s heroes. That’s it. That’s what they do. It’s all they do.

Honor Flight makes it possible for Southern Arizona veterans who served honorably on active duty, in the reserves or in the National Guard prior to 1975 to visit our nation’s capital and see the memorials dedicated to the conflicts in which they served.

“These aren’t just memorials,” Honor Flight notes on its website, “they’re testaments to the valor and courage of those who answered the call when it was needed most.”

We all can agree that our veterans put their lives on the line at a time of crisis to protect and defend our way of life. Honor Flight makes sure their sacrifices are celebrated and remembered. And that right there has American Dream written all over it.
