Change of Command Across AZ-06 Military Installations.

Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and Fort Huachuca hosted their traditional change of command ceremonies last Thursday in Tucson and Sierra Vista, where my team was present for both.

I am proud to represent these installations in Congress.

Protecting Our Wild Horses and Burros.

I was pleased to join Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada and Rep. Steve Cohen of Tennessee in introducing the bipartisan Wild Horse and Burro Protection Act of 2025 (H.R. 4356).

For too long, wild horses and burros have been subjected to dangerous, cruel, and costly roundups that often result in the death of the animal. This legislation will eliminate the use of helicopters by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for wild horse gathers and require a report to explore the benefits of alternative methods for humanely gathering horses and the workforce opportunities for traditional cowboys.

Wild horses and burros are icons of the American West and are sources of pride for many, regardless of what part of the country they live in. As Co-Chair of the Congressional Wild Horse Caucus, I’m proud to support this commonsense legislation.

Committed to Ensuring Fort Huachuaca Thrives.

Residents of Arizona’s 6th Congressional District know that Fort Huachuca fills a dual role in Cochise County. It plays a critical role in our nation’s defense and it’s an essential part of the regional economy.

That’s why I’m proud to go to bat for the Fort now, as the Pentagon considers ways to trim its budget. Reining in unnecessary expenses throughout the federal government is not only necessary but long overdue. But we should do so without negatively impacting irreplaceable Army assets like the Fort’s Electronic Proving Ground (EPG) which are critical for the development of current and future electronic and signals battlefield technology that will keep America’s military at the leading edge of military preparedness.

EPG is a one-of-a-kind strategic facility where testing and training in electronic warfare is conducted. Nowhere else in the country can our military and private industry partner to test the kinds of advanced electronic warfare equipment like is possible at Fort Huachuca, due to the high mountains and desert landscape. I’ve asked the Defense Department for specific details on the process to tighten its belt and let it be known that the greatest military needs the EPG.

NOW HIRING: Green & Gold Congressional Aide.

My office is looking to hire a Green & Gold Congressional Aide for a two-year paid position in my Tucson district office. This role involves attending local meetings and events on my behalf and acting as a facilitator between veteran constituents and federal, state, and local agencies. The Green & Gold Congressional Aide program was established to create employment opportunities for Veterans, Gold Star families, and Active-Duty Spouses within the U.S. House of Representatives. These positions provide participants with the experience and exposure necessary to broaden their career opportunities and assist other Veterans as constituent service representatives.

The program is limited to Veterans and Gold Star Families who meet specific requirements:

  • Veterans must be honorably discharged, released from active duty within the last six years, with terminal pay grades at or below E-5, O-3, or W-2.
  • Veterans promoted to the pay grades of E-6, O-4, and W-3 within six months of separation from active duty are eligible, provided they meet all other eligibility criteria.
  • Veterans who have received a 20-year or Temporary Early Retirement Authorization (TERA) retirement are not eligible.
  • Gold Star applicants must be the spouse, parent/step-parent, sibling/step-sibling, child, or step-child of a service member who died in the line of duty or from a service-connected disability.
  • Active-duty spouses must be married to a service member serving on active duty in a regular component of the armed forces.

American Dream Story.

Iran has been in the news a lot lately so it’s good time to highlight the amazing success story of Keya Tehrani, an immigrant who came to U.S. for a better life and found it.

Keya was born and grew up in Tehran well before the establishment of the Islamic Republic - an era when Jewish families like his could live without fear of persecution.  “It was a wonderful childhood, a beautiful life,” he said in a recent interview with the publication Keeping Jewish.

Keya came to the U.S. to advance his education in the mid-70’s and was planning to return home for a visit when the government was overthrown and the Iran of his youth was gone. His parents and grandmother joined Keya in Tucson, where he graduated from the University of Arizona and became an entrepreneur.

Keya dabbled as a distributor of restaurant supplies, started a flower shop and operated a few nightclubs before opening his first Coffee X Change in 1995. At one point, he oversaw a little empire of seven cafes throughout Tucson. Today, he and his son run the one remaining Coffee X Change on Tanque Verde Road.

“Life in the Unites States has been wonderful,” he says. “I’m proud to be an American.”
