Working for Our Veteran Community.

As a member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, and your congressman who represents nearly 80,000 veterans in Arizona’s Sixth Congressional District, I take the care and support of those who have served in our military very seriously.

To better serve our veterans in AZ-06, I hosted my quarterly Veterans Advisory Council meeting to hear concerns from our veteran members about ongoing developments with the Department of Veterans Affairs. I also provided an update on the legislation I’ve introduced this year, along with key victories included in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

I am grateful to Mayor Tom Murphy of Sahuarita for stepping up as the new chair, to Gen. Shepperd for his years of leadership as our first chair, and to our new members for joining us. Thank you to everyone on the council for providing your vital insight from our veteran community. I am energized to return to Washington, D.C. and ready to keep delivering for our veterans in AZ-06!

Wrapping up the August District Work Period on KVOI’s The Morning Voice.

Last week, I joined Ted Maxwell on KVOI’s The Morning Voice to share what I’ve been working on the past couple of weeks meeting with folks across Southeastern Arizona. It was a busy August district working period connecting with our community!

From meeting with steelworkers, to speaking with students in Vail, to celebrating our educators in Casa Grande, meeting with CBP Air and Marine Operations on Fort Huachuca, working the counter at a local Tucson QuikTrip, saw firsthand the 11,000 foot commercial runway being built at Tucson International Airport, welcomed youth from across the world to the Maccabi Games hosted by the Tucson Jewish Community Center and more – I heard from many of you your feedback, your priorities and shared how we have been delivering results throughout the 119th Congress.

During Ted’s program, I also spoke about the importance of continuing to strengthen our border security efforts, and I highlighted several key wins from the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which President Trump signed into law in July.

Looking ahead, Congress returns this week to Washington, D.C. to address critical budget deadlines. I shared my perspective on government spending and the deficit during the interview. My focus remains on ensuring we balance fiscal responsibility with the needs of our communities in AZ-06.

Working to Protect Water Arizonans Rely On.

I'm proud to announce the re-launch of the Colorado River Caucus – a bipartisan effort to foster greater cooperation for the seven states impacted by the rapid depletion of the Colorado River.

Preserving water rights for Arizona’s ranchers, farmers, and families that rely on the Colorado River is a top priority of mine as your representative in Congress. Additionally, Arizona is seeing a rapid population growth on top of the robust agricultural and tourism sectors that all depend on the Colorado River.

In total, the Colorado River provides water to over 40 million residents across seven states. As Co-chair of the Colorado River Caucus, I am committed to fighting for and working to protect our most precious resource, the Colorado River.

Joining the Congressional Optics and Photonics Caucus.

Earlier this year, I met with local stakeholders in AZ-06 and saw firsthand how their hard work is advancing our state as a global hub for the optics and photonics industry, also known as “Optics Valley.”

This industry spans diverse applications, including aerospace, defense, biomedicine, and semiconductors, and is supported by high-income job creation, resulting in a significant impact of $4 billion on Arizona’s economy.

To support this vital, growing sector of Arizona’s economy, I have recently joined the Congressional Optics and Photonics Caucus to better position myself as your representative to advocate for Arizona’s role in the optical science and technology space.

Listening to you is what helps me best understand how I can serve as your Representative.

Profiles of the American Dream.

Congratulations are definitely in order for Jocelyn Jimenez Smerz.

As an educator, Jocelyn makes the American Dream possible for kids in Tucson’s Catalina Foothills School District. But she’s also an inspiring example of someone who’s living the American Dream herself.

The STEM Integration Specialist at Manzanita Elementary School was recently selected as one of only six Master Teachers nationwide to join the White House Historical Association’s Teacher Institute.

The prestigious program consists of a week-long, in-person immersive education experience that includes exclusive site visits to the White House, Blair House, and the Frederick Douglass House, as well as meetings with historians and conversations with former White House staff.

Jocelyn has been a Tucson educator for more than 20 years, most recently as a fifth-grade teacher at Canyon View Elementary School. She’s known for her dynamic teaching style, blending hands-on science, engineering, Arizona history and U.S. social studies to create an exciting learning experience for her students.

Well done, Jocelyn!
