Passed the Energy and Water Appropriations Act.

Last week, the House returned to Washington, D.C., for its first week back after the August district work period and passed the Energy and Water Appropriations Bill. This bill will solidify American energy dominance, enhance infrastructure, foster economic growth, and bolster our national security, while also securing funding to address numerous priorities in Arizona, including issues related to the Colorado River Basin drought and supporting critical mineral production.

The FY26 Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Act Passed Through Committee.

I’m proud to support legislation that restores fiscal discipline, reins in government overreach, and protects Arizona families from burdensome regulations. Last week, the FY26 Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Act, was passed out of the House Appropriations Committee.

This bill delivers on commonsense priorities by strengthening national security, defending consumer freedom, and ensuring your taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly. As your representative and as Arizona’s only member on the House Appropriations Committee, I will always work to ensure your taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly and with accountability.

Led Colleagues on Arizona–Mexico Border Trip.

As a representative of a border district, I am incredibly proud to have led 5 of my colleagues from the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus (PSC) on a bipartisan delegation to the US-Mexico border in southern Arizona as part of my duties as the PSC's co-lead for the Immigration and Border Security Working Group.

We kicked off the trip with ranching and law enforcement leaders from Pima and Cochise counties, where we heard from our local communities about how they live the realities of the southern border every single day. I am incredibly grateful to our local stakeholders for sharing their insights with my PSC colleagues and for their ongoing partnership as we continue working toward a secure border.

Next, we heard from Border Patrol leadership in the Tucson Sector about the vast progress that has been made this year alone. Migrant border crossings are at an incredible record low, and the flow of fentanyl across the border has decreased significantly—but more work must be done to secure our border further and tackle the threat of cartel narcotic operations.

Image

We visited the Southern Border Intelligence Center with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, where we were briefed on the coordinated efforts between the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Army, and other agencies. This coordinated effort is crucial to combating the drug cartels, who are continuing their drug and narcotic illicit operations and are looking for weaknesses in our border security to exploit. These efforts must continue until these foreign terrorist organizations are dismantled for good.

We stopped by a warehouse in Nogales, Arizona, where we listened to importers, community leaders and representatives from the Greater Nogales Santa Cruz County Trade Authority and learned more about the importance of agricultural and commercial trade between Arizona and Mexico our largest trading partner.

Image

At the border wall, U.S. Border Patrol agents led us on a tour, where we discussed the border security progress our agents have seen since President Trump took office. We also discussed how we can use our positions in Congress to continue to support our border patrol agents.

Thank you to every person protecting our southern border and our communities in Arizona and across our nation.

Profiles of the American Dream.

We’ve all heard the cliches. Sports are about more than just the game. Sports teach valuable lessons about life. In sports you need discipline, resilience and perseverance – just like life.

Well, cliches are cliches for a reason. They’re true. And Joshua Rucker is proof.

The 41-year-old Sahuarita resident suffered a life-changing trauma 23 years ago in a vehicle accident that broke his back and severed his spinal cord. He was in a coma for a month and bone from his hip was used to replace his shattered vertebrae.

But Joshua, a lifelong athlete, was not about to throw in the towel.

“My spinal cord injury may have changed my life, but it hasn’t changed who I am,” Rucker says in a recent YouTube video. “I’ve learned to focus on what I can do rather than what I can’t do.”

What Joshua can do is truly amazing. He’s a competitive paraplegic powerlifter who has a ferocious passion for staying healthy and staying in shape.

"It's been a very long, bumpy road, up and down. A lot of failures,” he told the Green Valley News last week. “I just try to learn from those failures and better myself in my life, which has made me to where I'm at right now.”

Joshua, you are an inspiration!

Honoring Jerry Consiglio on the House Floor.

Last week, I honored Jerry Consiglio, Sierra Vista's oldest veteran and a member of the Greatest Generation, who passed away last month just a few days shy of his 102nd birthday. Jerry served bravely during World War II at Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge, earned two Bronze Stars, and was a beloved and well-known member of Sierra Vista’s veteran community for more than 40 years. You will be missed, Jerry. Rest in peace.
