My Letter of Support to Speaker Johnson on Addressing the ACA after the Shutdown Ends.
This past week, I sent a letter with my colleagues to Speaker Mike Johnson supporting his stance that Democrats are solely responsible for the ongoing federal government shutdown.
Our letter underscores that Senate Democrats have chosen to block funding bills and hold essential government operations hostage to push unrelated partisan demands.
Collectively, us 13 House Republicans reaffirmed that Congress’s first duty is to keep the government working for the American people – not to use shutdowns as leverage for political gain – and that responsible reforms, such as with healthcare, must move forward on its own merits, through regular order, as soon as the Democrat-caused federal government shutdown ends.
Healthcare costs are crushing Arizona families. I am focused on delivering reforms that protect taxpayers, protect families, and lower costs the right way, not through shutdown stand standoffs that only hurt the very people we were elected to represent.

SNAP Benefits will run out on November 1.
The Department of Agriculture announced that SNAP benefits will end on November 1 due to the federal government shutdown. In Arizona alone, there are 887,000 SNAP enrollees, including 344,000 children.
Senate Democrats have rejected attempts to fund SNAP benefits 12 times. Because of this, recipients of these benefits will not have access to keep food on their tables.
Our office remains open and searching for resources in AZ-06 to help direct our constituents to those who are in need. Please call my office in Tucson at (520) 881-3588 for the most up to date information on resources.

How the Government Shutdown Impacts Arizona.
Arizona’s small businesses are the backbone of our state’s economy. Unfortunately, that backbone is being strained by the ongoing federal government shutdown that is cutting off critical resources and capital. Below are a few statistics on how the government shutdown impacts our state.

Walking to End Alzheimer’s.
I was proud to help kick off this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Reid Park over the weekend alongside so many Arizonans united for a common cause — finding a cure.
This event is a powerful reminder of the families, caregivers, and loved ones impacted by Alzheimer’s across Southern Arizona. Together, we’re raising awareness, supporting vital research, and standing with those who face this disease every day.
I’m also proud to cosponsor the Health and Human Services dollars to be used to enhance the training of primary care physicians in diagnosing and treating Alzheimer’s and dementia. This is an important step to ensure early detection, better care, and stronger support for patients and their families.
Every step we take brings us closer to a cure.

Joined over 200 Homebuilders and Community Members at SAHBA Breakfast.
It was great to join the Southern Arizona Home Builders Association (SAHBA) Government Affairs Breakfast alongside over 200 community and industry leaders who are shaping the future of our region.
Southern Arizona is growing rapidly — and with that growth comes the need for policies that support both opportunity and affordability. Housing plays a vital role in our economic success, and it’s critical that we empower builders, homeowners, and local governments to keep pace with our region’s needs. That is why I reintroduced the CONSTRUCTS Act - the Creating Opportunities for New Skills Training at Rural and Underserved Colleges and Trade Schools (CONSTRUCTS) Act (H.R. 1055). This legislation would create a grant program to fund and develop residential construction education and certification programs at community colleges, junior colleges, and trade schools. In addition, it would expand access to good-paying, high-demand jobs for students, address the shortage of skilled construction workers, and allow developers to build more homes, ultimately lowering housing costs.??
As your representative, I’ll continue working to advance policies that promote responsible development, reduce barriers to homeownership, and strengthen the communities that make our community such a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

SECURED: Safford Regional Airport’s FAA Waiver.
Even during the federal government shutdown, our office remains focused on delivering for Arizona’s 6th congressional district. So when the Safford Regional Airport in Graham County faced delays in securing a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) waiver needed for its November 1st airshow, our team stepped in to help move it across the finish line.
Without this critical FAA waiver, the airshow—and the significant local revenue it generates—would have been at risk. I’m proud that we were able to ensure the show goes on, supporting our local economy and community pride in the process.

Mike Broomhead Interview.
In a recent interview with The Mike Broomhead show on KTA, I made it clear that House Republicans voted to keep the government open, while Democrats in the Senate chose to shut it down, hurting our troops, Border Patrol agents, and working families. I also emphasized my commitment to extending ACA subsidies responsibly, protecting Medicaid for those who truly need it, and ensuring we govern with fiscal responsibility while keeping our government operational.

In the News.
"As more families across Southern Arizona struggle to find an affordable place to live, government and industry leaders are calling for action. “Home affordability is key. It’s something essential for every person out there, definitely to achieve the American dream. It’s a big part of that,” said Congressman Juan Ciscomani, who represents much of Southern Arizona. Ciscomani said it starts with bipartisan cooperation to speed up housing construction."
"A group of House Republicans is calling on Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., to deal with expiring Obamacare subsidies immediately after the government shutdown ends. Thirteen House GOP lawmakers, led by Reps. Jeff Van Drew, R-N.J., and Jen Kiggans, R-Va., are sending a letter to Johnson on Tuesday thanking him for his leadership during the shutdown but maintaining that Obamacare must also be dealt with before the end of the year."
Walk to End Alzheimer's draws large crowd to Reid Park Saturday
"On a crisp autumn morning, thousands of walkers converged in Reid Park for the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s fundraiser, supporting the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association. Reid Park Saturday. The event, held Saturday, Oct. 25 in midtown, aimed to rally members of the community around the goal of ending Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani, whose congressional district includes parts of southern Arizona and who sits on the Appropriations Committee, attended the walk to lend his support. “My role as a legislator and an appropriator is to make sure we have the proper funding to keep the research and make sure that we beat this disease,” Ciscomani said."
"The new border wall stretches 23 miles through the Tucson sector, where construction crews are replacing existing barriers with more advanced infrastructure. Last month, the Trump administration put over $606 million towards the Tucson sector's Smart Wall project. Overall, they’re spending over $4 billion on improvements to the southwest border... Meanwhile, both parties in Arizona, including Governor Katie Hobbs, Senators Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego, and Congressman Juan Ciscomani, have supported measures to secure the border this year. "

Profiles of the American Dream.
This week we bid farewell and offer our thanks to David Malewitz, a dedicated public servant who’s helped make the American Dream a reality for the residents of Eloy. David announced recently that he’s leaving the post of city manager that he’s held since April 2022. As the Casa Grande Dispatch put it, he’s “leaving behind a solid portfolio of service to the Eloy community.” Being a city manager can be a tough gig. Your job is to keep the trains running on time while making sure three key constituencies are happy: city residents, city staff and city elected leaders. By all accounts, David succeeded. Mayor Andrew Sutton praised his “incredible leadership” and the “amazing job” he’s done guiding the city. David’s accomplishments include helping Eloy through a period of growth and overseeing important initiatives in infrastructure, community services and economic development. For his part, David looks fondly on his time at City Hall. “Getting the opportunity to work here in Eloy has been a game changer in my life and career,” he says. “I never stopped believing in the potential of Eloy.” Thank you, David. And best of luck to you.
