Celebrating Easter.
This past Easter weekend was spent with my loved ones, reflecting on the suffering Christ endured for our sake, as well as his victory over death when he arose on the third day.
As part of Easter weekend, I attended the Gospel Rescue Mission’s Annual Good Friday Breakfast. This event is an opportunity for the local community to gather together in remembrance of the work Christ did on the cross and the eternal hope we have been given through Him.
To all who celebrated, hope you had a blessed Easter spent with those you love most!

Proud of our Wildcats.
The UofA Men’s Basketball team had an incredible season this year! Not only were they ranked Number 1 in the nation for a majority of the season they advanced to the Final Four for the first time in 25 years. While it didn’t end the way we had hope, proud of the Wildcats on a great season.

Supporting VA Families During Parental Leave.
I am proud to have worked with Rep. Janelle Bynum (D-OR) to introduce the bipartisan Supporting VA Families Act (H.R. 8041). This bill works to support Department of Veterans Affairs' (VA) employees by ensuring they can have an additional 4 weeks of unpaid leave for their newborn children.
This bill is designed to strengthen current support for VA employees by recognizing the importance of parental bonding during the earliest days of a child’s life. VA staff play a critical role in caring for our nation’s veterans, and this legislation ensures they are able to be present during one of life’s most important and precious moments in time.
The Supporting VA Families Act prioritizes parent-child bonding that is so essential in the first months of a child’s life. I urge my colleagues to vote in favor of this bipartisan bill when it comes to the House floor.
You can read my press release on the bill HERE and my statement on it below.

Prioritizing Affordable Housing.
One of the most pressing issues both locally and nationally is the rising cost of housing. To help combat this continued problem, I joined Rep. Mike Quigley (D-IL) to introduce the Facilitating Accelerated Supply of Targeted (FAST) Housing Act (H.R. 8171).
This bill directs the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to launch a new pilot demonstration program and within one year, encourages public and private partners to build more workforce and lower-income housing in communities that are growing due to recent federal investments through bipartisan infrastructure legislation.
Through this program, fifteen geographically diverse communities facing significant housing shortages will be selected to receive competitive grants. These communities will work towards solutions that cut regulatory red tape, which has been responsible for slowing housing development and driving up housing costs in recent years.
This pilot program will identify what works and use those proven successes to help our communities in need and help bring the American Dream within reach for more working families. Proud to lead this effort alongside Rep. Quigley.

Important Information for Tax Season.
As we are in the midst of tax season, our office wants to update you on valuable information that can help in your filing!
Thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, 91% of Americans are finding it easier than ever to file their taxes.
This legislation streamlines tax filing, with the largest tax refunds in history being project for this season and 210 million hours saved in total on tax preparation. These tax cuts will result in a reduction of $13 billion in compliance costs, and an increase of over $10,000 in annual take-home pay for working families.
Under the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, standard deduction levels have been permanently extended. These new levels are $15,750 for single or married filing separately filers, $31,500 for married couples filing jointly, and $23,625 for head of household filers.
Finally, it is now easier for small businesses and workers to file taxes. The Working Families Tax Cuts Act removes unnecessary IRS paperwork and simplifies reporting requirements, including increasing the income reporting threshold to $2,000 before small businesses must send certain tax forms.
Additionally, we’ve heard from many of you, our constituents, regarding issues obtaining your 1099-R form from the Office of Personnel Management. Annuitants who have an email on file with OPM may have received their 1099-Rs electronically.
To access your 1099-R Form online, please visit: https://www.servicesonline.opm.gov/. A new access tool can help you get your current year 1099-R tax form, no login required.
You may also contact OPM Retirement Services online or call 1-888-767-6738 (TTY: 711).
As always, please contact my office for assistance with a federal agency.

Ciscomani cosponsors bipartisan bill to expand VA employees unpaid parental leave
The Ripon Advance "Bipartisan legislation recently cosponsored by U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ) would ensure that U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) employees receive an additional four weeks of unpaid leave for their newborn children. 'As a father, I know how precious those early days with a newborn are, especially for families balancing demanding careers,' Rep. Ciscomani said. 'Parents should have the ability to spend that time with their children.' The congressman on March 24 signed on as the lead original cosponsor of the Supporting VA Families Act, H.R. 8041, which is sponsored by U.S. Rep. Janelle Bynum (D-OR). If enacted, the bill would establish an entitlement to a supplemental period of unpaid parental leave for VA employees, according to the text of H.R. 8041, which says that any VA employee would be entitled to four administrative weeks of leave without pay during any 12-month period due to the birth of a son or daughter of the employee, or the placement of a son or daughter with the employee for adoption or foster care."
Rep. Ciscomani recognizes SSVEC national award
Sierra Vista Herald
"Hailing the commitment of the Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative (SSVEC) for prioritizing affordability, Congressman Juan Ciscomani celebrated the national award received by the local utility in a speech to Congress last week. 'Mr. Speaker, I rise today to congratulate Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative in southern Arizona for receiving the 2023 Electric Cooperative Purpose Award from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association,' Ciscomani stated in his remarks from the floor of the House of Representatives. Last month SSVEC received the Electric Cooperative Purpose Award from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA). The award recognizes cooperatives that work with their membership to make visible, lasting improvements to the quality of life in the communities they serve. SSVEC earned the recognition for actions taken during the 2022 surge in global fuel prices that placed significant pressure on energy costs for rural families and businesses."

Each spring, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Congressional Art Competition is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as in our Congressional District.
The Congressional Art Competition is open to all high school students in Arizona’s Sixth District. The winning artwork of our district's competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The exhibit in Washington will include the winning artwork from all participating districts from around the country. The winning artwork is also featured on House.gov's Congressional Art Competition page.

Since day one of being in office, I have been a champion of veterans. In the 119th Congress alone, I have introduced and led four veterans-focused bills that have passed the House. AZ-06 is home to nearly 80,000 veterans and supporting each and every one is a high priority for me.
As part of my effort to give back to our veterans here in southeastern Arizona, I have hosted three Veteran Servant Leader Award events. These events honor veterans who have continued to serve their communities after their time spent serving our nation. My office and I have been able to award dozens of veterans through these three events, and we are looking forward to our fourth which will be held this spring.
If you know an AZ-06 veteran who is dedicated to giving back to their community and embodies the values of duty, service, and commitment that are at the core of our military, we invite you to nominate them for our fourth Veteran Servant Leader Awards! Nominations will be accepted through Friday, April 17.
You can nominate a veteran HERE.

Profiles of the American Dream.
Jeannie and Doug Crawford’s life together is nothing short of a true love story. The Crawfords, who reside inGreen Valley, just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Now 88, they first met in the eighth grade, and have been together ever since.
They have four children, 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Through Jeannie and Doug’s commitment to one another and their goals, they have truly built a life over these past 70 years that embodies the American Dream.
Jeannie and Doug have lived in several different states over the years but ended up moving to Green Valley in 2005 after initially visiting and falling in love with the area.
When asked what the secret to a healthy and lasting relationship is, they say keeping the main focus on God. And although their finances were tight a majority of the time, Jeannie and Doug never argued about money because they didn't know anything different and realized from a young age that the best way to handle tight finances is to work through it together.
And besides, money was never the most important thing to either of them. For the Crawfords, it was always about building a loving home, raising a family, and being grateful for the many blessings the Lord has given.
Congratulations, Jeannie and Doug on 70 years of marriage! You are an inspiration to many, and I wish you many more years ahead with one another.
