Fighting to Fund our Homeland Defenders.

The men and women who protect our nation each day deserve their paycheck. For over 75 days, hardworking Department of Homeland Security employees across Southeastern Arizona have had to work without pay because of ongoing political games. Senate Democrats have repeatedly voted to withhold critical funding for DHS, harming employees across the country and putting our national security at extreme risk.

Throughout the past months, I have continually voted to fully fund DHS. Earlier this year, I sponsored the Pay Our Homeland Defenders Act, which passed the House with bipartisan support. Last week marked a major milestone in my work to secure our border and support communities across Southeastern Arizona. I was proud to support and help advance S. 2, the Secure America Act, landmark legislation that provides DHS with the resources needed to strengthen border security while delivering long-term support for Arizona communities through 2029. In addition to voting for the Secure America Act, I also voted in favor of the FY2027 Homeland Security Appropriations Bill as it advanced out of Committee, allocating funding the Department needs for the upcoming year.

I remain committed to securing our border and keeping AZ-06 communities safe. Ensuring our homeland defenders have the funding they need is critical in achieving both these goals.

Investing in the Education Priorities and Health Care.

The Fiscal Year 2027 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, along with over $3 million brought back to our district for critical community projects, includes increased funding for essential educational opportunities and medical research.

The bill provides $12.37 billion in funding for Head Start, a program that invests in early childhood learning and development, helping children and families succeed. As a father of six and long-time supporter of Head Start, I believe in the importance of funding this program. The funding bill also increases funding for Pell Grants by $250 million, giving young men and women the help they need to pursue their educational goals. As a Pell Grant recipient, I have experienced firsthand how these investments transform lives and make higher education accessible to students across Arizona, helping these bright students pursue their own version of the American Dream.

This legislation also includes significant investments in medical research, increasing funding for areas such as women’s health initiatives, Alzheimer’s research, and cancer research, and bringing over $3.1 million back to AZ-06 for local health care projects.

I was honored to deliver remarks before Committee passage of this bill, advocating for this critical funding that will support students, young adults, and seniors throughout our district and across the nation. WATCH my remarks HERE or below.

Protecting Arizona’s Wild Horses.

Arizona is home to many groups of wild horses, including the Salt River horses and Heber horses. These animals are unquestionably to our state’s heritage and identity and have unfortunately faced a history of cruelty and improper removal.

As Co-Chair of the bipartisan Congressional Wild Horse Caucus, I have been continually committed to protecting these beloved Arizona animals. I am proud to be joined by Rep. David Schweikert in my latest effort to protect these wild horses. We recently sent a letter urging the U.S. Forest Service to ensure proper management of Arizona’s Salt River and Heber horses to uphold their great significance to our state.

2026 Congressional Baseball Game.

I was honored to take the field last Wednesday for this year’s bipartisan Congressional Baseball Game, where the House GOP took home its sixth straight win. This year, we raised $3.2 million for charities supporting both children and families in need.

It was an amazing night and privilege to play for such a great cause!

Mt. Graham mammography upgrade advances in federal budget process

"A proposal to replace aging mammography equipment at Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center is among several Southern Arizona projects advancing through the House appropriations process as Congress begins work on the federal budget for fiscal year 2027. The project would receive $650,000 under a spending bill approved by the House Appropriations Committee. The funding was requested by U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani, whose 6th Congressional District includes Graham County. The funding is not yet final. It must still be approved by both the House and Senate and signed into law by the president before any money is distributed. According to a funding request submitted by Ciscomani to the House Appropriations Committee, the money would be used to replace aging mammography equipment at Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center, a critical access hospital that serves Graham County and surrounding rural communities. Ciscomani wrote that the replacement equipment would improve breast cancer screening capabilities and help identify cancers earlier, potentially leading to less invasive treatment options and better patient outcomes. 'Mammograms are the most effective tool for early detection of breast cancer, often identifying tumors up to three years before they can be felt,' Ciscomani wrote in the March funding request."

Arizona lawmakers advance agriculture, rural development funding proposals

"Federal agriculture and rural development funding proposals backed by Arizona lawmakers are moving forward in Congress, including nearly $4 million in proposed project funding for Cochise and Graham counties and a separate bipartisan bill aimed at expanding agricultural workforce training at community colleges. The U.S. House voted 213-210 to approve the Fiscal Year 2027 Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. The bill includes Community Project Funding requests submitted by U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani, R-Ariz., for projects in Arizona’s 6th Congressional District. The funding is not final. The Senate must still consider its own version of the legislation, and any differences would have to be resolved before a final appropriations bill could be sent to the president. The largest local request is $2 million for Graham County Courthouse modernization. According to Ciscomani’s office, the money would help renovate and expand the historic courthouse, including new court facilities, a Superior Court courtroom and additional space for Justice of the Peace Court operations. Another $1.3 million would go to Huachuca City for a ladder truck intended to improve fire suppression, rescue and mutual aid response in Huachuca City, Sierra Vista, Fort Huachuca, Whetstone and surrounding areas. The bill also includes $650,000 for Fort Thomas Unified Schools. Ciscomani’s office described the request as an educator recruitment and retention infrastructure project, though the project description included in the release repeated language related to the Huachuca City fire truck request. Ciscomani said in a statement that the projects would support rural communities and local infrastructure. 'These investments will strengthen our rural communities, support Arizona’s agriculture industry, and help ensure the long-term success of the farmers, ranchers, and local leaders who drive our economy,' Ciscomani said."

Arizona Republican US Rep. Juan Ciscomani wants Congress to address legal immigration

"Arizona U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani wants to improve the legal immigration process, an issue he takes personally, but he’s not sure Congress is as keen on addressing it as he is. 'I’ve been here for three years, and one of the things that I’ve realized is that some people in Washington — a lot of people in Washington — like issues and problems to stay alive, because that’s what keeps their jobs intact. So, the longer that you prolong a solution for something, the more you can milk it in different ways,' Ciscomani told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s The Mike Broomhead Show on Thursday. Ciscomani, a Republican who represents southern Arizona’s 6th Congressional District, is the first Mexican-born naturalized U.S. citizen elected to Congress. 'This year is my 20th anniversary as a U.S. citizen as the country celebrates 250 years,' he said."

Profiles of the American Dream.

Ed Davis was so determined to serve his country he lied about his age.

He was a 15-year-old kid eager to get out of Pontiac, Michigan back in 1950 when he tried to enlist in the Marine Corps. The recruiter saw right through the forged birth certificate Ed showed them so he went to the Army. They agreed to let him put on a uniform as long as his parents signed an affidavit stating he was of age.

Mom reluctantly gave the green light and off Ed went to boot camp. He probably had no idea at the time, but this young patriot was about to begin a 32-year military career that spanned two branches of the Armed Forces and two major wars.

Now 92, Ed’s path was far from conventional. He would go on to get discharged from the Army after they found out his real age, re-enlist for a second Army tour and then join the Navy because he wanted to learn how to fly.

Ed may well be among a select few who saw battle as both an infantry grunt and as a pilot who flew nearly 450combat missions.

Ed’s amazing story of service and persistence was recounted recently in a two-part story in the Green Valley News. It’s worth checking out. As we approach our nation’s 250th birthday, Ed is an inspiring reminder of what it means to protect and defend the American Dream.
