Advocating for Land and Water Conservation in Arizona.

There is no question that water is our greatest resource here in Arizona. Along with water, we also have the responsibility to utilize our land responsibly. I’m proud to have joined a recent effort urging for the protection of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), a crucial commitment to conservation that directly supports both public lands and local economies in Arizona and across the country.

I joined a number of other House members committed to protecting the LWCF in sending a letter to the House Committee on Natural Resources Chairman Bruce Westerman, urging him to ensure the LWCF is not amended in any current or future discussions of the Committee.

Protecting the LWCF is essential for making sure the unique needs of AZ-06 communities remain supported. This fund advances critical projects that benefit our land, water, and wildlife here in southeastern Arizona. I remain dedicated to advocating for the LWCF and the direct support it provides to our district.

District Work Week: Rural Arizona.

This past district work week was focused on achievements in healthcare and community support.

I had the opportunity to honor several outstanding volunteers on the Cochise County Sheriff’s Assist Team (SAT) at their 25th Anniversary & Annual Awards Luncheon in Sierra Vista. The SAT has served the communities of Cochise County for the last 25 years, helping local law enforcement operate to its full capacity. These men and women choose to serve each day out of love for their community and deserve a huge thank you for their efforts.

In addition to spending time in Cochise County, I was also honored to celebrate the grand opening of Sun Life Health’s newest facility in Pinal County, which will provide essential care to families in and around Casa Grande. Thanks in part to a $52.6 million loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), residents in the area will now have access to this all-encompassing location that will provide primary care and pediatrics, as well as pharmacy services, three-dimensional mammography, and walk-ins.

Local organizations like the Cochise County SAT and Sun Life Health are critical to the functioning of AZ-06 and its communities. Their work helps keep our district strong and I’m proud to work alongside both to best advocate for the needs and priorities of AZ-06.

Cochise Sheriff’s Assist Team marks 25 years, honors volunteers

"The Cochise County Sheriff’s Assist Team (SAT) held its annual awards luncheon to recognize volunteers who collectively served more than 10,000 hours performing non-enforcement duties. This vital support allows deputies to focus on responding to incidents and reducing crime. The event also marked the team’s 25th anniversary...U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani presented a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition honoring the 25th anniversary. He praised the volunteers’ 'amazing legacy' and dedication, noting individual service milestones of up to 10,000 hours and that approximately 80 percent of the team are veterans who continue serving their community. Ciscomani thanked law enforcement officers and their families for their sacrifices and shared his personal milestone of 20 years as a U.S. citizen, highlighting the opportunities and values preserved through such service."

Sun Life Health facility celebrates grand opening

"Among those attending the ceremony were U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani, Casa Grande Mayor Lisa Navarro Fitzgibbons, former Mayor Craig McFarland, city officials, Sun Life board members and community partners. Ciscomani, who described the new complex as a 'stunning, stunning building,' praised Sun Life’s impact across Pinal County, noting the organization employs more than 400 people and serves more than 50,000 patients. 'What you have here is something so special, it’s almost like a calling. You love helping people in their worst moments and in their best moments,' Ciscomani said. 'It’s great to hear the history of something. We usually come here and we cut the ribbon on things and we sometimes don’t know all of (what) transcends the moment that we’rehere in today. All the ups and downs, the joy, the tears, the stress, the good news, bad news and everything that came with it and how everything survived to be here today.' Ciscomani said the new campus near Banner Casa Grande Medical Center represents more than a building. 'This is a testament to the continued growth and development here in Casa Grande and Pinal County,' Ciscomani said."

Ciscomani Applauds House Passage of Landmark Kids Internet Safety Legislation

"U.S. Representative Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06) is commending House passage of the Kids Internet and Digital Safety (KIDS) Act, which passed with bipartisan support in a 267-117 vote. Representative Ciscomani is proud to have voted in favor of this legislation to protect and safeguard children who use online platforms. 'As a father of six, my children’s safety is my number one concern. I want to know that they are safe, especially when using the internet,' said Rep. Ciscomani. 'I am deeply committed to supporting legislation that protects our most vulnerable. That is why I am proud to have voted in favor of the KIDS Act and applaud its bipartisan passage in the House. I now urge the Senate to pass this bill because ensuring the safety of our children is not a partisan issue. It is simply common sense.' As minors have increased access to the internet and social media, it is imperative to put adequate protections in place to ensure those under 18 are safe while using these platforms. Statistics show that 44% of parents are concerned about their teen’s mental health and argue that social media is the biggest negative influence on this age group. In addition to a negative impact on mental health, there has been an influx of harmful behaviors online in recent years, such as cyberbullying and grooming, as well as kids experiencing increased exposure to explicit content such as pornography. Children online often encounter content they should not see because safeguards are too lax."

Profiles of the American Dream.

Our nation’s 250th birthday was much more than an occasion to enjoy fireworks and barbecue with family and friends. It was the perfect time to reflect on the history, ideals and traditions we all share as Americans.

One of those traditions came to mind last week as the Cochise County Sheriff's Assist Team celebrated its 25th anniversary and recognized the dedicated volunteers who are the backbone of the organization.

The Sheriff's Assist Team assists with non-law enforcement duties like crime scene security, house checks and traffic control, freeing up the sworn officers of the Cochise County Sheriff's Office to focus on the job they’re trained to do – criminal incidents and crime prevention.

So what, you might ask, does the Sheriff's Assist Team have to do with July 4th or our Founding Fathers? Well, they are part of a uniquely American tradition of volunteerism that goes back to 1736, when Benjamin Franklin organized the first formal all-volunteer fire brigade in the American colonies. Volunteers are – and will remain – an essential part of the American Dream.

At last week’s celebration, Sheriff Mark Dannels noted that the Team’s volunteers have forged partnerships and relationships with the community they serve, building trust and strengthening the quality of life for everyone in Cochise County.
