Fighting for Quality Veteran Care.

I am proud to have joined Representative Chris Pappas of New Hampshire last week to introduce H.R. 9666, the AIR CARE for Vets Act (Advanced Imaging for Respiratory Care, Assessment, and Research Excellence for Veterans Act). This legislation would provide veterans with improved access to advanced imaging software used to diagnose certain respiratory conditions resulting from time in service, including asthma and obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), as well as lung cancer.

It’s crucial to ensure that the nearly 80,000 veterans in AZ-06 have access to the best quality care possible. This includes all stages of care, from testing and diagnosis all the way through treatment.

Currently, diagnosing respiratory illnesses and conditions in veterans is limited by standard testing procedures using whole-lung assessments, including invasive and painful procedures, such as a lung biopsy. The AIR CARE for Vets Act would help solve this issue by directing the VA to put a five-year pilot program in place using FDA-approved four-dimensional functional lung imaging software, improving the identification and diagnosis of respiratory disorders in veterans.

I believe this legislation is crucial for our veterans here in AZ-06 and will continue to advocate for it as it eventually moves through Congress.

The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act: What it Means for You.

Homeownership is integral to the American Dream. Unfortunately, due to federal regulations create by previousAdministrations have contributed to the rising costs, homeownership a cornerstone of the American Dream seems out of reach for working families across Southern Arizona.

I am proud to have supported the bipartisan passage of the 21st Century Road to Housing Act, which has now passed both the House and Senate and become law. Now that this legislation is law, I wanted to provide more information explaining exactly what the bill does and doesn’t do.

The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act means more accessible and affordable housing for Arizonans, especially for first-time homebuyers. It will ensure more streamlined construction, cutting through red tape without compromising on any construction safeguards.

The dream of owning a home should never feel out of reach for the average working American. I look forward to how this new law will ensure homeownership remains both accessible and affordable here in AZ-06.

2026 Hero of Main Street.

I am honored to have received this year’s Hero of Main Street Award from the National Retail Federation during their annual Retail Advocates Summit in Washington, D.C.

As a member of the Main Street Caucus, I am a strong advocate of small businesses and the local retail industry here in southeastern Arizona. I am proud to have cosponsored a total of seven bills for America’s small businesses since taking office in 2023, including the Combating Organized Retail Crime Act of 2025 that would support small businesses and the retail industry by strengthening law enforcement’s ability to combat both organized retail crime and money laundering.

I remain dedicated to advancing policies that strengthen local retailers and promote economic opportunity for hardworking Americans, and I look forward to my continued partnership with organizations like the National Retail Federation while doing so.

INTERVIEW: Modernizing the DeConcini Port of Entry.

Recently, I had the pleasure of sitting down with 535 News in Washington, D.C. to speak about modernizing the DeConcini Port of Entry in Nogales and how these modernizations are essential for trade and border security.

Making long-overdue upgrades to the port would have a substantial impact on trade between the United States and Mexico and security at the border. I remain committed to advocating for modernizations at the port following the letter that I and Representatives Stanton and Hamadeh wrote to Secretary Mullin of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Administrator Forst of the General Services Administration about the issue.

I am grateful for the opportunity to speak with 535 News about a topic that is so critical for the state of Arizona. I will continue fighting for modernizations at the port, to ensure that Arizona continues as a leader in international trade and our border remains strong.

USDA Support for AZ-06 Farmers and Ranchers.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently designated several Arizona counties, including Graham, Pima, and Pinal, as primary natural disaster areas due to drought conditions.

This means increased support for farmers and ranchers here in southeastern Arizona. The designation gives farmers and ranchers the opportunity to be considered for an emergency loan assistance program operated by the department’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) to provide them with necessary credit following a natural disaster like severe drought.

I encourage all AZ-06 farmers and ranchers dealing with the effects of severe drought to look into this USDA program. Emergency loans from the program are essential for recovery as they can be utilized for replacing equipment or livestock, reworking a farming operation, or refinancing certain debts.

I remain committed to partnering with the farmers and ranchers in our district to continue advocating for the unique needs of our agriculture industry and am grateful for how the USDA works to do the same.

'Businesses throughout our communities have faced the growing burden of organized retail crime, making it clear that a bipartisan solution was needed to make a positive change across Arizona’s Sixth District. These criminal organizations are not only harming small businesses and retailers, but they are also putting American consumers at risk of violence and fraud. The Combating Organized Retail Crime Act of 2025 provides concrete solutions to combat these crimes, which often fuel other illicit activities, including drug and human trafficking.' Letter to the Editor: Ciscomani is 'responsive'

"I really want to make a statement to my neighbors in the Gila Valley in support of our U.S. Representative Juan Ciscomani. I have been voting in the State of AZ since the early 1970’s and I don’t remember having been represented by a more dedicated man. He is responsive and keeps me informed of what he is doing in his elected position. I have never known that much detail about what goes on in the House of Representatives, or had that much feedback from an elected official, ever. I believe he has done a tremendous job for us."

Profiles of the American Dream.

Caitlyn Kauffman is a rock star in the Marana Unified School District.

The principal of Marana High School was honored by the district recently with its Spirit of Marana Award, an annual accolade presented to educators and administrators who transform student outcomes, strengthen school culture and expand leadership opportunities for teachers and staff.

The award is clearly well deserved.

Since she’s been at the helm of Marana High, Caitlyn has spearheaded a climb in the school’s state letter grade ranking from a low C to a B+. And just in time for graduation this year, the school was named an A+ School of Excellence by the Arizona Educational Foundation.

This achievement is no small feat for a big school with 2,400 students and nearly 200 faculty and staff. But if anyone’s up to the task, it’s an educator with Caitlyn’s experience and record of accomplishment. In 2024, she was recognized by the district as its Administrator of the Year for her unwavering positivity and her ability to create a sense of community at Marana High.

Before assuming Marana High’s top job Caitlyn served as its associate principal, principal at Gladden Farms Elementary, and as a teacher, counselor, coach, and administrator in another district.

"At Marana High, we believe that all students can learn and that deep, lasting learning happens through active, hands-on engagement," Caitlyn says on the school’s website. "Our focus remains on building safe, supportive classrooms where every student has the opportunity to thrive."
