Banning Insider Trading by Members of Congress.

Elected officials should never have the ability to use their power and access to information for personal benefit. Last week, the House passed the Stop Insider Trading Act (H.R. 7008) to keep Members of Congress accountable.

This long-overdue legislation comes as a response to years of concerns about elected officials using their position for personal financial gain. I was proud to vote in favor of this legislation to ensure Members of Congress do not abuse their position. As elected representatives, we are entrusted to serve our constituents, not enrich ourselves.

The Stop Insider Trading Act is essential for preserving public trust in our nation’s elected officials, and I remain committed to voicing my support for this legislation as it moves through Congress.

Advocating for Earlier Alzheimer’s Detection.

I am proud to have joined Representative Jake Auchincloss (D-MA-04) last week to introduce the Alzheimer's Early Detection Act (H.R. 9823). This legislation seeks to strengthen the fight against Alzheimer's by ensuring Americans have the resources they need to detect this disease earlier and make educated healthcare decisions before advanced progression.

The issue of Alzheimer's detection and treatment is personal to me because, like so many Americans, people close to me are suffering from the effects of this horrible disease. I want to do all I can to ensure my loved ones and the future generations of America have access to earlier detection technology to fight against Alzheimer's.

Fighting to Prevent Another Government Shutdown.

I have never voted in support of a government shutdown, because when our government is shutdown, hardworking Americans get hurt. Last week, I voted once again in support of keeping our government open.

In a bipartisan vote of 220 to 205, the House passed H.R. 9770, Making appropriations for fiscal year 2027. This short-term continuing resolution will extend government funding through December 4, 2026, ensuring our federal agencies and workers have the resources they need and our communities here in Southern Arizona remain supported.

I will always vote in favor of keeping our government fully open and will continue advocating for the prevention of another government shutdown that will only hurt the American people.

Prioritizing our National Defense.

Our military deserves to have the resources it needs to properly protect our nation. The men and women who fight to defend us should always have the tools they need to carry out their missions, while they and their families have the best quality of life possible.

I was proud to vote in favor of the Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) last week to strengthen military readiness, support defense industries here in Arizona, and prioritize quality of life for servicemembers and their families.

The NDAA passed the House with a bipartisan vote of 216 to 212. This legislation will make significant investments in our military, including a 5-7% pay raise for junior-enlisted servicemembers, $1.8 billion for new barracks and the construction of military housing, and over $226 million for the design and construction of childcare centers for military families.

To ensure taxpayer dollars are directly used to strengthen our national defense and support our troops, the NDAA also cuts nearly $30 billion in unnecessary spending.

Upcoming Veteran Servant Leader Awards.

Since day one of being in office, I have been a champion of veterans. In the 119th Congress alone, I have introduced and led four veterans-focused bills that have passed the House. AZ-06 is home to nearly 80,000 veterans and supporting each and every one is a high priority for me.

As part of my effort to give back to our veterans here in southeastern Arizona, I have hosted three Veteran Servant Leader Award events. These events honor veterans who have continued to serve their communities after their time spent serving our nation. My office and I have been able to award dozens of veterans through these three events, and we are looking forward to our fifth which will be held in Sierra Vista this August.

Bipartisan bill would invest $25M to bolster use of key medical imaging software

"Two congressmen recently proposed a bipartisan bill that would invest $25 million in federal funding to bolster use of a key medical imaging software. U.S. Reps. Chris Pappas, D-N.H., and Juan Ciscomani, R-Ariz., on July 14 introduced the Advanced Imaging for Respiratory Care, Assessment and Research Excellence for Vets Act. They contend that current diagnostic approaches for respiratory conditions are limited by standard testing procedures using whole-lung assessments. The two lawmakers hope to address these challenges by broadening access to four-dimensional imaging technology that would allow for more accurate testing. If passed, the AIR CARE for Vets Act would authorize $5 million in annual funding for the next five years, allowing the VA to lease eligible software to treat vets. 'Under this bill, veterans suffering from respiratory conditions and lung cancer would receive better quality care at the VA through the use of imaging software equipped to properly evaluate their symptoms,' Ciscomani said in a statement July 16. 'Better imaging software means an improved rate of diagnosis, which would save lives by catching issues like lung cancer sooner.'"

A-10 Warthog's final flight set at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base

"The A-10 Warthog is preparing for its final flight at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. Airmen gathered this week to recognize the iconic aircraft's decades of service. The final flight of the A-10s is set for next Wednesday. The aircraftare expected to fly around 11 a.m. and land around 11:20 a.m. Congressman Juan Ciscomani also paid tribute to the Warthog this week. 'The A-10 has served the U.S. military for decades. And while it will no longer be in use at Davis-Monthan, this aircraft will continue to be an essential asset of our nation's military,' Ciscomani said."

Rep. Ciscomani Votes to Ban Stock Trading by Members of Congress

"In a push aimed at restoring public trust in federal institutions, U.S. Representative Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ06) joined a bipartisan majority in the House of Representatives to pass the Stop Insider Trading Act (H.R. 7008). The legislation strictly prohibits Members of Congress and their immediate family members from leveraging privileged, non-public information obtained through official government duties for personal stock trading and financial gain...In a statement following the bill’s passage, Rep. Ciscomani emphasized the necessity of equal standards between elected officials and the constituents they serve. 'Members of Congress should not be getting rich because of their position in public office,' said Rep. Juan Ciscomani. 'The American people expect their elected officials to serve their communities, not use their office for personal financial gain. Members of Congress have access to information that is not available to the public, and that information should never be used to benefit their own stock portfolios.'"

Profiles of the American Dream.

It’s widely known as the Warthog. Or sometimes just the Hog. Occasionally someone calls it a Tankbuster. But its official name is the A-10 Thunderbolt II and for the past half century this twin-engine jet been a fixture at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and the skies above Tucson.

The A-10’s connection to southern Arizona comes to end this week with a final flight ceremony at DM. The event marks the end of an era.

The reliable and rugged A-10 has played a pivotal role in protecting and defending the American Dream for generations. Name a conflict our country has been involved in recently and the A-10 has been part of it: Iraq, Afghanistan, the Balkans, Libya, the Islamic State, even Iran.

As a recent story on the website Military Machine put it, the A-10 “has destroyed more enemy armor than any other platform in the post-Vietnam era.” Its performance in the Gulf War alone was staggering. A-10s flew more combat sorties than any other aircraft in the coalition – more than 8,100. It destroyed 987 tanks, 926 artillery pieces and 1,355 combat vehicles. Ninety percent of all AGM-65 Maverick missiles were fired by A-10s. And in one single day, two-A-10s were responsible for taking out 23 of Saddam Hussein’s Russian-made tanks.

The A-10 was designed to provide close air support for our troops on the ground and attack enemy armored vehicles and tanks. Its secondary missions were no less important. They included reconnaissance and combat search and rescue.

The A-10’s value on the battlefield was its ability to fly low and slow. The single-seat plane was built around a powerful seven-barrel 30mm Gatling gun that can fire 3,900 rounds a minute. It has a top speed of 420 miles per hour and a range of 800 miles. To keep in the pilot safe, the cockpit is surrounded by a 1,200-pound titanium enclosure known as the “bathtub” that can absorb cannon fire and anti-aircraft shells like no other tactical jet.

The first A-10 was delivered to DM in October 1975, and it’s been an indispensable part of Tucson’s military family ever since. Its legacy will endure.
