Most Bipartisan Member in Arizona for Second Consecutive Congress.

Above all else, my goal in Congress is to deliver tangible results for our local communities. For the second consecutive congress, I am honored to have been recognized as one of Congress’s most bipartisan members, and the most bipartisan among the Arizona delegation.

This ranking is done by Bridge Grades, a nonpartisan project of the Mediators Foundation, and seeks to evaluate members of Congress using objective, third-party data to determine whether a member works collaboratively or divisively.

Throughout my time in Congress, I have worked to serve Southern Arizona, and that means working across the aisle to deliver results.

Delivering for AZ-06: Community Project Funding Visits.

Bringing back federal funding for our district is one of my highest priorities as Arizona’s only appropriator in either the House or Senate. I am proud to have preliminarily secured a total of $42.7 million for 20 Community Project Funding (CPF) requests for Fiscal Year 2027 (FY2027). Last week, I visited two of these CPFs to meet with local leaders about the funding preliminarily secured for their communities.

I met with leaders of the Oro Valley Police Department to discuss the $4.2 million I preliminarily secured to equip their new headquarters with the technology and equipment necessary for law enforcement support and increased public safety across Southern Arizona.

Additionally, I met with leaders in Eloy to discuss the $6.76 million preliminarily secured for the city’s Frontier Mill & Overlay Project Phases II & III which will modernize existing roadway infrastructure.

I remain committed to delivering for Arizona’s Sixth Congressional District through federal funding and look forward to the 20 CPFs for FY2027 being signed into law and allocated to our communities.

Meeting With Local Faith Leaders.

Faith leaders and faith-based organizations play a crucial role in our communities. Last week, I held a roundtable with a number of local faith leaders and had a great conversation about supporting our communities through faith-based partnerships, expanding access to affordable housing, strengthening public safety, and ensuring families feel secure in their places of worship.

Throughout my time in office, I have championed efforts to invest in faith-based organizations, ensuring they have the resources necessary to best serve their communities.

Last week’s roundtable allowed me to hear directly from faith leaders who see firsthand the unique needs of our communities. They shared with me how I can continue to support the work they do and ended our meeting by praying over me.

Laura and I left the roundtable feeling a hedge of protection around us and our family and a restored hope for how the Lord is working through these leaders in our communities.

Applauding a Major Investment in Arizona’s Critical Minerals.

I have been a longstanding advocate of protecting Arizona’s critical minerals, with my latest effort being the Critical Mineral Consistency Act which passed the House this March.

Additionally, U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) Secretary Doug Burgum recently visited our district to see firsthand the importance of investing in Arizona’s critical minerals and copper production.

Last week, the President announced a $1 billion investment in the Ivanhoe Santa Cruz Copper Project near Casa Grande and $180 million in grants to expand mining education, including at the University of Arizona.

This announcement is exciting news for Arizona as it will further solidify our position as the nation’s leader in critical minerals and copper production.

I look forward to the many ways in which these investments will strengthen Arizona and its mining industry.

I was honored to welcome Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and U.S. Department of the Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to the district last week!

During their visit, we spent time at the PepsiCo manufacturing facility in Casa Grande to discuss how the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, a year after becoming law, is strengthening Arizona manufacturing, creating jobs, and delivering tax relief for hardworking Americans.

After touring the facility, we held a roundtable with PepsiCo leadership and a number of other local manufacturers and held a press conference, both with the goal of discussing how the Working Families Tax Cuts Act is delivering real results for Arizonans.

Upcoming Veteran Servant Leader Awards.

Since day one of being in office, I have been a champion of veterans. In the 119th Congress alone, I have introduced and led four veterans-focused bills that have passed the House. AZ-06 is home to nearly 80,000 veterans and supporting each and every one is a high priority for me.

As part of my effort to give back to our veterans here in southeastern Arizona, I have hosted three Veteran Servant Leader Award events. These events honor veterans who have continued to serve their communities after their time spent serving our nation. My office and I have been able to award dozens of veterans through these three events, and we are looking forward to our fifth which will be held in Sierra Vista later this month.

"Top Republican leaders visited a Frito-Lay facility in Casa Grande on Wednesday to highlight the tax cuts passed by Congress last summer and campaign for Rep. Juan Ciscomani in one of the country’s most closely watched congressional races. House Speaker Mike Johnson and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent joined Ciscomani for a tour of the plant, where products including Cheetos and SunChips are made...Secretary Bessent says making many of the 2017 tax cuts permanent, including lower individual tax rates and a larger standard deduction, is giving businesses more certainty and confidence to make long-term investments. 'It’s really come together; we’re seeing investment because of the permanence that we have in these policies,' Bessent said. Ciscomani argued that private-sector expansion, rather than the creation of additional government jobs, is the best way to grow the economy. 'What this company is doing by expanding, attracting more people—that will move us forward,' Ciscomani said."

Profiles of the American Dream.

The eastern Arizona town of Clifton typically doesn’t get a lot of media attention. The quiet community of about 3,800 residents was founded as a mining camp in 1873 and the important work of extracting ore has remained at the heart of its existence ever since. Clifton, the county seat of Greenlee County, is blessed with a charming turn-of-the-century downtown and is increasingly popular with hikers, birders and other outdoor enthusiasts, but it doesn’t get a lot of press.

Until now. When publications ranging from People magazine to The Times of India write about you, the story must be noteworthy.

Clifton was catapulted into the news recently thanks to a former nurse turned postal clerk who acted with lightning speed to save the life of an 8-month-old baby girl. “I did what I had to do,” said Mary Schwarz, the modest hero of this amazing story.

As recounted by The Gila Herald, it was an ordinary Saturday morning last month when Kylie Vega popped into the Clifton Post Office with her baby Nova to mail a package. Mary was behind the counter. Moments after Kylie stepped up to her window both noticed something was wrong with the baby. Little Nova was limp and turning blue.

"I just immediately went into healthcare worker mode," said Mary, who worked as a nurse for 13 years before becoming a postal clerk. As Kylie called 911, Mary administered CPR and then back thrusts to clear a possible airway obstruction.

The police quickly arrived at the post office and Lt. Shari Aguilar made the split-second decision to transport Nova to the hospital rather than wait for an ambulance. As the patrol vehicle sped through town with lights flashing and the siren blaring, Mary was in the front passenger seat with Nova in her lap, continuing her life-saving efforts.

They worked. Nova took a breath just as they reached the hospital. Then another.

"It happened so fast. I really didn’t have time to think," Mary said. "I taught CPR for years, so it really was all just instinct at that point — muscle memory."

A guardian angel may also be involved.
