Duncan CPF: Flood Mitigation and Pedestrian Safety.

Among the CPF requests I have preliminarily secured for next year is $1.7 million for flood mitigation and pedestrian safety improvements in the Town of Duncan.

The funding will address severe recurring flooding and pedestrian safety hazards along the town’s East Avenue. This stretch is a critical local roadway located immediately south of U.S. Highway 70. Flooding here frequently reaches depths of three feet or more, preventing pedestrian access, limiting vehicular travel, damaging nearby properties, and deteriorating the roadway.

I was pleased to meet with Duncan Mayor Alex Blake and other town leadership last week to discuss this critical investment and the significant impacts it would have on the local community by improving the speed and safety oftransportation for the town’s residents. I will continue to fight for this much-needed funding to be secured and signed into law to ensure this rural community has the federal resources necessary to keep its residents safe.

Cochise County Sheriff’s Office CPF: Strengthening Rural Law Enforcement.

In addition to visiting the Town of Duncan, I also spent time with the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office to highlight an $1 million investment to strengthen the department’s communications capabilities and provide local law enforcement with the tools and resources necessary to serve and protect Cochise County well.

The preliminarily secured $1 million would support the department’s purchase of four mobile communications trailers equipped to provide 5G data and P25-compliant radio coverage for critical operations.

With nearly 126,000 residents calling the county home and an area spanning over 6,000 square miles, reliable communication can be a challenge for law enforcement in Cochise County. This funding would provide significant support for the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office and its efforts, to ensure it is able to keep local communities safe.

I was grateful to meet with Sheriff Mark Dannels and the department to hear firsthand how this targeted investment would immediately benefit both their officers and Cochise County residents. As I head back to Washington, I remain committed to fighting for this critical funding.

Honoring our Nation’s Heroes.

A highlight from last week was spending time with local veterans at my fifth Veteran Servant Leader Awards and a meeting with my Veterans Advisory Council.

I was honored to recognize 19 incredible veterans at my fifth Veteran Servant Leader Awards, which was the first to be held in Sierra Vista. I presented certificates to 17 veterans at the main ceremony as well as Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pins to those who served in the Vietnam War. Additionally, I gave out the first Veteran Advocate Award, meant to recognize civilians who have dedicated their time to supporting and advocating for the local veteran community.

After the ceremony, my team and I headed to Doc’s Watering Hole to recognize two additional veterans who had both been nominated for the award twice but could not make it to the event.

The work of these veterans did not end when their time in the Armed Forces did. They have continued to serve, lead, and sacrifice to move Southern Arizona forward, and I am honored to have recognized and thanked each of them at last week’s Veteran Servant Leader Awards.

In addition to honoring local veterans, I met with my Veterans Advisory Council to provide a legislative update and discuss the unique needs of veterans in our district. As I head back to Washington, I am taking their insight and perspectives with me.

Connecting With AZ-06 Students.

In addition to last week’s events and CPF visits, I had the honor of spending time with bright young students in our district.

First, I had the opportunity to visit Buena High School, to meet with students and staff who make up the school’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. This award-winning program prepares these students for direct workforce pathways upon graduating, partnering with Cochise College and local employers to deliver outstanding opportunities including internships and credentials. I am grateful to have spent time with these amazing students and the staff that makes this exceptional program possible, and I wish them all the best in this new school year.

I was also excited to serve as honorary captain for Marana High School’s rivalry football game against Salpointe Catholic High School last Thursday night, to kick off their home season. Both the Marana Tigers and Salpointe Catholic Lancers were extremely energized, even after a delayed kickoff due to monsoon weather. I enjoyed spending time with these young athletes and taking part in the ceremonial coin toss for this exciting home game. I wish both the Tigers and Lancers best of luck this football season.

Discussing the American Dream of Homeownership With TAR.

The ability to own a home is integral to the American Dream. I was honored to join the Tucson Association of Realtors last week to discuss just how important homeownership is for Southern Arizona and our nation.

If anyone knows the work that goes into buying a home and how rewarding homeownership is, it’s real estate agents. This event gave me the opportunity to share what I am doing in Congress to support and defend the American Dream of homeownership, including securing millions in federal investments to fund infrastructure projects across the district.

Thank you to the Tucson Association of Realtors for having me. I look forward to continuing to partner with our realtors, to bring back critical funding that ensures the American Dream of owning a home remains alive and well right here in Southern Arizona.

Mike Broomhead Interview: Discussing the August District Work Period.

As the month of August came to a close, I joined Mike Broomhead for an interview to discuss the work period and what I hope we can accomplish by the end of this Congress.

The interview highlighted the several CPF visits I made throughout August, the impact these investments would have on our district, and the millions in federal funding I have already secured for Southern Arizona.

The conversation also focused on the work we have ahead of us in Congress as we head back to Washington, including passing a clean continuing resolution to ensure our government remains full funded, and we avoid another harmful shutdown. With only a little over 30 days left in Washington before the end of the year, I am ready to hit the ground running and finish out the 119th Congress strong.

Ciscomani continues work to provide funding to local sheriff’s department in home state

"As part of his efforts to ensure federal investments for Arizona’s 6th Congressional District, U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ) said $1 million has been preliminarily secured for the Cochise County Sheriff’s Department as part of $42.7 million for 20 Community Project Funding (CPF) requests across the district. Rep. Ciscomani on Aug. 26 visited the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office in Sierra Vista, Ariz., to discuss his efforts to help local law enforcement keep Cochise County communities safe. 'I am incredibly proud to be fighting to deliver $1 million to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Department,' Rep. Ciscomani said. 'This targeted investment will improve communications for drone operations, search-and-rescue command and control, and high-definition video surveillance, helping our officers better serve the people of Cochise County.'"

Ciscomani tours Buena programs, highlights $1 million for Cochise County law enforcement

"U.S. Rep Juan Ciscomani made several stops in Cochise County on Wednesday, touring career and technical education programs at Buena High School before highlighting $1 million in proposed federal funding for the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office and recognizing local veterans. Ciscomani began the afternoon at Buena High School, where he met with students and toured several of the school’s career and technical education programs. Buena High School Principal Nicole Young said the tour was organized in partnership with the Cochise Technology District...Ciscomani encouraged the students to take advantage of the opportunities available to them and credited their teachers and other adults for investing in their success. 'All they want is for you to go reach your potential, whatever that potential is,' he said. 'Doesn’t have to be money or title or position'....Last Wednesday, Ciscomani visited the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office to highlight $1 million in federal Community Project Funding that his office said has been preliminarily secured to improve the department’s communications capabilities."

Profiles of the American Dream.

Knowing how to read isn’t necessary to dream but it’s pretty important if you want to achieve the American Dream.

Dolly Parton understood that. Her dream was to get kids to read – to give them early access to books and inspire a lifelong love of reading. She saw in her own father how a lack of education could impact a person’s life. She knew the connection between literacy and opportunity.

Dolly launched her Imagination Library in 1995 and since then it has exploded to a worldwide phenomenon, delivering free books to more than 3 million children every month. Among the beneficiaries are thousands of kids in Arizona and the 6th Congressional District.

As recounted last week in the Casa Grande Dispatch, the United Way of Pinal County partnered with the Imagination Library nine years ago. It has grown from 70 children receiving books in 2017 to more than 3,000 children across every ZIP code in Pinal County today.

"The program has delivered more than 150,000 books to local children, helping families build a love of reading and develop critical early literacy skills before kindergarten," the United Way’s Joseph Caruso told the paper. "Early literacy is critical to a child’s long-term academic success, and this program helps put books directly into the hands and homes of young children during their most important developmental years."

A similar success story has played out in Tucson. According to the United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona, their partnership with the Imagination Library helped send 15,479 books to 1,380 children in 11 zip codes throughout southern Arizona in 2022-2023.

"My daddy was the smartest man I have ever known, but I knew his inability to read probably kept him from seeing all of his dreams come true," Dolly once said. "Inspiring kids to love to read became my mission."

And what a worthy mission it was. Thank you, Dolly.
