Honoring Arizona Marine Nicholas Quets.
The legacy of Arizona Marine Corps veteran Nicholas Douglas Quets is one of heroic sacrifice. While traveling to Mexico on October 18, 2024, Nicholas was tragically killed by Sinaloa Cartel-affiliated narcoterrorists. The 2-year anniversary of Nicholas’ passing falls on this coming Sunday.
Since his passing, Nicholas’ family has championed stronger national security and robust safeguards for Americans who fall victim to violent crime abroad. I am honored to have worked with the Quets family to advocate for Nicholas and his life of service.
I am proud to be leading a legislative package to honor Nicholas’ legacy and improve cooperation between the United States and Mexico, including:
- A resolution that recognizes Nicholas’ sacrifice and dedication to our country.
- The Nicholas Douglas Quets U.S.-Mexico Rapid Response for Victims of Crime Act, which would strengthen coordination between the United States and Mexico to ensure American victims of crime receive timely support and assistance.
Additionally, I am proud to join Rep. Eli Crane to introduce the Nicholas Douglas Quets Border Safety Travel Act.

Graham County: $6.3 Million for Infrastructure, Healthcare, Roads, and Housing.
Last week was especially productive. From attending this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer's to joining the Chamber of Southern Arizona for their annual luncheon, I was proud to spend time with constituents across Arizona’s Sixth District.
One of the highlights from last week was joining local leadership throughout the district to tour several Community Project Funding (CPF) locations. Delivering critical federal support through CPFs is one of my highest priorities in Congress. Since taking office, I have delivered more than $60 million in CPFs, supporting the needs of communities throughout all five districts of our district. Through the 2027 Appropriations process, I am fighting to deliver $42.7 million for 20 projects.
Last week's CPF visits included four in Graham County:
- $3 million for the reconstruction and widening of 1st Avenue Road in Thatcher, making travel safer and more efficient.
- $2 million for modernization and improvements to the Graham County Courthouse in Safford, helping ensure that it can continue meeting the needs of Graham County residents.
- $650,000 for Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center’s purchase a new mammography unit, bringing advanced breast cancer screening and diagnostic services closer to home.
- $650,000 for teacher housing at Fort Thomas Unified School District, helping provide more affordable housing options for educators and improving the district’s ability to recruit and retain teachers in the community.
I am proud to be fighting for these four critical projects in Graham County and look forward to my continued partnership with local leaders in these communities, to ensure residents throughout the county have the federal support they need.

Pinal County: $2.7 Million for Roadway Improvements.
Along with the four Graham County CPF visits, I was proud to spend time in Pinal County and join Casa Grande Mayor Fitzgibbons and City Manager Larry Rains to tour the Burris Road-Peters project. I am fighting to deliver $2.7 million for improvements at the intersections of Burris Road & Highway 84 and Burris Road & Peters Road, improving the safety and efficiency of travel at these critical transportation points.
While in Pinal County, I also attended the 5th Annual Casa Grande Oktoberfest to celebrate the Casa Grande Rotary Club’s 100th anniversary. The organization has served the local community for a century, creating a lasting impact on generations of Casa Grande residents. I was honored to join in celebrating their incredible work.

Pima County: $2 Million for Sahuarita Law Enforcement.
To round out last week’s CPF visits, I was honored to visit with leadership at the Sahuarita Police Department, joined by Rep. Nathaniel Moran of Texas, to discuss the $2 million in funding I am working to deliver for the department's purchase of a critical solar battery backup system. This funding will strengthen the facility’s operations and support the department’s ability to serve the residents of Sahuarita.
I am proud to be fighting for this funding and look forward to my continued partnership with the Sahuarita Police Department and other local law enforcement organizations to ensure Southern Arizona communities have the support they need to thrive.

In 2024, I secured $2.7 million in federal funding to help Pima JTED purchase land and expand its in-demand training programs. Now, I am fighting to bring another $3 million home to help more students access career and technical education. Together, these investments total $5.7 million in federal funding secured and sought for Pima JTED.
Last week, I was honored to take part in the beam-signing ceremony for the new 50,000-square-foot Potoff Private Philanthropy Center for Technological Innovation, made possible in part through Community Project Funding. I am proud to support this project and help prepare Southern Arizona students for the careers of tomorrow.

Celebrating Arizona’s Copper.
Arizona is a leader in the United States’ domestic copper production. Earlier this year, Florence Copper, a mining operation based here in Arizona, became the first new source of copper in the United States since 2008 when it produced its first copper cathode.
At full production, Florence Copper is expected to produce approximately 85 million pounds of copper cathode annually, increasing the United States’ refined copper production by approximately 5% above 2025 levels. This is a significant achievement, not only for our local economy, but also for our nation security.
I was proud to join Florence Copper leadership and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin to celebrate the operation’s incredible success. In office I have worked to ensure Arizona remains a key leader in our nation’s critical mineral supply and domestic copper production, through measures including myCritical Mineral Consistency Act (H.R. 755).
Congratulations to everyone at Florence Copper! Through your efforts, Arizona remains a strong source of domestic mining and critical mineral supply.

Albers Aerospace’s expansion to Tucson greatly benefits Southern Arizona by advancing our growing defense and aerospace manufacturing sector through new jobs and investment in our region.
I was proud to join everyone at Albers Aerospace to celebrate this milestone and look forward to how this operation will strengthen our local economy and national security.

Profiles of the American Dream.
From student intern to CEO – it’s a rise through the ranks that practically screams American Dream.
Susan Gray was tapped to be the first woman to lead Tucson Electric Power in January 2021, after serving as the company’s vice president of energy delivery, COO and president. As CEO she oversees about 1,500 employees who keep lights on for nearly a half million customers throughout southeastern Arizona.
Susan came to Arizona from California to swim as part of the first recruiting class of legendary University of Arizona Coach Frank Busch. She put her name in for internship at TEP in 1994 because of something we don’thear very often – she wanted to spend the summer in Tucson. Her career at the company began three years later when she was hired as an energy management system engineer.
Susan has bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and an MBA from the University of Arizona. Earlier this year her alma mater named her the 2026 Alumna of the Year for the College of Engineering.
Susan credits her parents for instilling in her at early age a love of learning and a sky’s-the-limit approach to life. She once told an interviewer that one of the greatest rewards of her job is when employees find an exciting project that allows them "come alive" in their daily work.
"For me," she says, "defining success means not just that I’m thriving and finding success in my career but that we’re all thriving."
