A Thriving Future Ahead of Richmond

This week, I had the pleasure of visiting Richmond and seeing firsthand the exciting work going on in our community. From investments in our local economy to new affordable homes, I see a thriving future ahead of Richmond—full of promise and opportunity. I am proud to tell you about my work in Congress and the progress being made in our community.

It was a pleasure to join the Richmond Chamber of Commerce to discuss the new economic opportunities in our community. I am proud to support the local business community through my work in Congress.

I had a great time meeting with Community Property Management. This Richmond-based organization specializes in managing affordable housing throughout Contra Costa County and the entire Bay Area. We discussed the importance of improving access to affordable housing in our community.

In Congress, I am the author of the "HOME Reauthorization Act," which provides flexible funds to local agencies for the construction or renovation of affordable housing. I look forward to continuing our work together to build new affordable homes and improve the lives of our neighbors.

I was honored to present a $1 Million check at Kennedy High School in Richmond to support the Construction Trades Workforce Initiative (CTWI)—the nonprofit partner of local Building Trades Councils in the Northern/East Bay Area Region. Specifically, these funds will be used to create a new Multi-Craft Core Curriculum Apprenticeship Readiness Program to prepare residents to work in skilled building trades and place them directly with high-wage jobs. Participants in this program will graduate with industry-standard certifications and requirements including MC3 certification, OSHA 10, and First Aid training.

This program will uplift our communities and fulfill a critical need for skilled building labor in a region with the lowest housing availability. I was proud to secure this funding through my work in Congress, and I look forward to seeing all the good it does for the community.

I’m incredibly proud of the great work that we have been able to get done this week. It is an honor to represent the people of California’s 8th Congressional District and I will keep fighting to make sure your interests are represented in our work in Congress.

Sincerely,
