Politics Over Participation Act The fight for equality remains more urgent than ever, as right-wing extremists target transgender Americans’ most fundamental rights and freedoms. Whether spouting dangerous rhetoric from cable news desks or openly bullying schoolchildren from the halls of power, MAGA Republicans are cruelly undermining the safety and well-being of our transgender community.
The hateful proposal passed by House Republicans this week would make it a violation of Title IX if schools allow transgender girls to play on girls’ sports teams. Every child, regardless of gender identity, deserves a chance to be part of a team, to learn lessons in sportsmanship, to push themselves to reach their fullest athletic potential.
But more broadly, this legislation is about more than sports. It’s about how we, as leaders in our Nation, speak about the transgender community. It’s our responsibility as leaders to stand in the breach against bigotry.

Yom Hashoah
It’s a tragedy that so few of the American Rescuers have been officially recognized for their courage in helping save innocent lives from the murderous Nazi regime. My family takes great pride in the legacy of my father, Thomas D’Alesandro, Jr., who was one of the earliest and loudest voices demanding more attention to the danger faced by Jews in Europe.
On March 2, 1943, as a Member of the Committee for a Jewish Army of Stateless and Palestinian Jews, he took to the Floor of the House of Representatives. In his words: “Daily, hourly, the greatest crime of all time is being committed. A defenseless and innocent people is being slaughtered in a wholesale massacre of millions …We will spare no efforts and have no rest until the American public will be fully informed of the facts and aroused to its responsibility.”
His leadership is one of my family’s proudest legacies. And it has been my special privilege in Congress to help keep his leadership alive – including by leading a Congressional delegation to Auschwitz-Birkenau and Yad Vashem in 2020.
As we observed Yom Hashoah this week, we renewed our pledge to never forget the horrors of the Holocaust. And every day, we must redouble our efforts to end antisemitism – and erase the scourge of hate in our time.

A constituent’s citizenship application had been denied, and they submitted a request for an appeal because they believed U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services made an error in processing their application. The appeal process extended past its normal processing time. My staff inquired with the agency and were informed this week that the constituent’s citizenship application has now been approved.
