Dear Community Member,
Last week, I continued to show up, listen up, and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the constituents of California’s 19th Congressional District. I held a Social Security Virtual Town Hall, Social Security Town Hall, Medicaid Town Hall, and two listening sessions about cuts to federal jobs and federal research funding. While other leaders are avoiding public forums, I’ve held 13 town halls, including eight in-person town halls and five virtual town halls, and countless listening sessions and roundtables since February 1st.
This type of constant and consistent engagement is important, not just because it’s my job, but because I’m committed to people knowing about the Administration’s potential cuts to Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, veterans' services, food programs, federal jobs, federal funding for research, and more. I’m proud to have held as many town halls and public engagements as I have in such a short period of time. By bringing people together, along with proper legislation, investigation, litigation, communication, and mobilization, we are ensuring that our system of checks and balances is strong and that our democracy is fortified.

Last week, I met with federal workers caught in the chaos of mass terminations and administrative confusion. Their dedication and frustration fuel my continued fight to protect their jobs and the essential federal services provided by these public servants.

Hundreds of constituents attended another one of my town halls on Medicaid last week. I brought together constituents and local doctors to talk about the potential cuts to Medicaid based on the reconciliation legislation in Congress. We discussed the potential for $880 billion in proposed cuts that could impact over 165,000 residents on Medicaid in California’s 19th Congressional District.
Rep. Panetta hosted a listening session with university researchers on NIH funding cuts last week.
Last week, I convened a roundtable with university researchers facing devastating uncertainty due to frozen federal research funds. We are working together to push for transparency, reverse harmful funding freezes, and protect the next generation of scientific progress and innovation.

Thousands of constituents joined my virtual town hall to discuss the Administration’s dangerous overhaul of the Social Security Administration (SSA) last week. Former SSA Commissioner Martin O’Malley joined as my guest and outlined the potential for cuts to your earned Social Security benefits. Later that night, Commissioner O’Malley went on a television news show to talk about the Administration’s overhaul and mentioned my town hall. Rep. Panetta hosted non-profit leaders in California’s 19th Congressional District.
Through legislation, investigation, litigation, communication, and mobilization we can ensure that our system of checks and balances remains strong. As I bring people together and provide them with the proper information to push back against this Administration, I’ll continue to show up, serve, and fight for California’s 19th Congressional District.
