Getting Answers for Angelenos on Medication Abortion, the Debt Limit, Criminal Justice Reform, and Gun Violence Prevention

A MESSAGE FROM CONGRESSWOMAN KAMLAGER-DOVE:

Dear Friend,

Thank you to the more than 5,000 constituents who joined my first ever telephone town hall on Tuesday evening! It was a great event, and I thank Eugene Ogasawara and Chans Chiv from the LA Passport Agency, as well as Adela Silber from the U.S. Postal Service Agency, for joining us. During the event, we addressed important questions about how you can obtain your passports on time. We also discussed my vision for the 118th Congress and answered some of your pressing questions about bipartisanship, the debt limit, and accessing constituent services.

I look forward to hosting more events in the future to keep you caught up on what my office can offer you and what I am focused on in Congress.

My first telephone town hall was a success, and I look forward to my next event!

Many of you are concerned with the state of our debt limit and the possibility of defaulting on our debt under the Republicans’ Default on America Act. Our debt limit is essentially our country's line of credit and how we pay back what we have already decided to spend. We must raise our debt ceiling to prevent defaulting on our bills, but Republicans have decided to make this a moment of partisan politics: cutting essential programs that keep people alive, holding our economy hostage and risking default. I shared my views on this disastrous plan with Spectrum News this week. I also released information about how this plan hurts people here in CA37

My interview with Spectrum News discussed my views of the Default on America Act.
Hope you can tune in this Monday at 8 p.m. PST to watch it on

The GOP plan for the debt limit would be disastrous for people in California's 37th District.

I reached across the aisle to introduce bipartisan criminal justice reform legislation. My Women in Criminal Justice Reform Act with Rep. Nancy Mace (SC-01) will address the disproportionate ways the system impacts women including harsher sentencing, poorer health care, and other discriminatory practices.

This week, I attended a press conference on the importance of gun violence prevention legislation. Gun violence is claiming the lives of innocent children in record numbers. We MUST act now to save lives and ensure that our children's futures are not cut short by gun violence. I am working diligently with my colleagues in the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force to reach Republicans across the aisle and see where we can connect on this critical issue. The safety of our children is not a political game.

I stood with Chair Mike Thompson, Leader Jeffries, and other Gun Violence Prevention Task Force colleagues to call for action on gun violence legislation to save our children's lives.

Lastly, as we have seen, medication abortion has been a hot issue in the news over the past couple weeks following a ruling out of Texas that threatened to ban access to Mifepristone, a drug used commonly in medication abortion. Since the Dobbs decision this summer, the need for Mifepristone has skyrocketed, and medication abortion has become a popular and highly accessible form of abortion care. Mifepristone has been FDA-approved for decades, and a ban would be devastating for women across the country. Fortunately, mountains of appeals came in, and the Supreme Court decided to block any proposed bans on the medication until those appeals can be heard. The battle for our reproductive rights is not yet won, and I will continue to fight to secure bodily autonomy for all.
