A MESSAGE FROM CONGRESSWOMAN KAMLAGER-DOVE:
Dear Friend,
In Congress, I remain laser-focused on criminal justice. I have been a longtime advocate for justice for all and have seen how the pursuit of justice impacts different parts of our lives. This week, I demanded justice for my constituent Eyvin Hernandez, for myself and my Congressional Black Caucus colleagues who were subjected to Congressman Eli Crane's hateful remarks on the House Floor last week, for juveniles in our criminal justice system, and for women across the nation who are still waiting for the Equal Rights Amendment to become the law of the land.
BRING EYVIN HOME
Eyvin Hernandez is a Los Angeles County public defender who has been wrongfully detained in Venezuela for over a year. This week, I gathered with his family and friends and Congresswoman Young Kim (CA-40) and Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) to call for his release. The Biden Administration and State Department must use all of the tools in their toolkit to bring Eyvin home. We must return this angel to the City of Angels, so he can be reunited with his loved ones who miss him dearly.

JUVENILE JUSTICE REFORM
Juvenile justice reform has long been a passion of mine, and I'm glad to find advocates for justice in colleagues like Congressman Tony Cárdenas (CA-29) and Congressman Bruce Westerman (AR-04). This week, we stood together to announce the introduction of a series of bills aimed at reforming our criminal justice system to ensure better treatment of juveniles. We have used a one-size-fits-all approach for too long. What works for adults doesn't work for children. I introduced the Childhood Offenders Rehabilitation and Safety Act to better address the needs of juveniles and provide holistic pathways for rehabilitation.

CONGRESSMAN CRANE'S REMARKS
On Monday, I stood with my Congressional Black Caucus colleagues to respond to Congressman Crane's hateful comments on the House Floor last week when he called Black people “colored people.” His comments displayed how much bigotry and hatred inhabits the House of Representatives. He did not misspeak. It's really how he thinks of his own colleagues and constituents, and he owes all of us an apology.

THE CENTENNIAL OF THE ERA
Today marks 100 years since the Equal Rights Amendment was originally introduced. Equality should not take 100 years. As a Vice Chair of the Equal Rights Amendment Caucus, I will continue to work with Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) and Congresswoman Cori Bush (MO-01) to fight for equality for women across our nation. A Constitution with the ERA means better pathways to addressing issues like abortion access, housing and employment discrimination, LGBTQ+ rights, the wage gap, and many other issues impacting millions. Equality can't wait. I will always fight for you and put justice at the forefront of my work in Congress.
