Apply for Your
PACT Act Benefits Now

A MESSAGE FROM CONGRESSWOMAN KAMLAGER-DOVE:

Dear Friend,

The PACT Act was signed into law by President Biden a year ago this week. Since then, over 350,000 veterans across the nation have received the care and benefits they deserve. This month also commemorates Hip-Hop Day and marks the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop, dating back to the 'Back to School Jam' in the Bronx in 1973.

APPLYING FOR YOUR PACT ACT BENEFITS

Thursday marked one year since the PACT Act became law. This landmark law offers the most significant expansion of VA benefits in generations. There are over 1.5 million veterans in California, but according to PACT Act claims, only 565 veterans out of over 14,750 in CA-37 have filed to receive their PACT Act benefits. Due to an error message that impacted those trying to file claims, the deadline to file to receive a year's worth of benefits backdated to August 10, 2022 has been extended to Monday, August 14.

All eligible veterans and survivors can file a claim — or submit their intent to file a claim — for PACT Act-related benefits. If you want to learn more, visit VA.gov/PACT. I will always advocate on behalf of our veterans and their families, and I urge you to take advantage of this extended deadline to receive the benefits owed to you.

HIP-HOP DAY AND THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIP-HOP

As a child of Hip-Hop, I have seen how Hip-Hop has become ingrained in American culture through music, art, fashion, and film. I have also seen it become an economic machine, ensuring that so many artists, entertainers, and enthusiasts could build careers around the music they cherish. I have seen this impact the city of Los Angeles in particular, blending Hip-Hop influence into everyday life. California’s own talent like the late Tupac, Nipsey Hussle, and Dr. Dre are just some of the many artists who made a profound difference in the Hip-Hop industry. I recently introduced a resolution with the support of Democratic Leader Jeffries and other Democratic colleagues to recognize the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop, and I hope this resolution will help us continue to support young musical artists and a one-of-a-kind genre that has spoken to the Black struggle for decades.
