A MESSAGE FROM CONGRESSWOMAN KAMLAGER-DOVE:
Dear Friend,
Before we come to the year’s end, I want to make sure you know I’m continuing to focus on the issues that matter to you. This week, I introduced legislation to combat the fentanyl crisis at the national level. On Monday, I’ll be hosting a telephone town hall to answer your questions on housing. I am determined to wrap up the year strong by working to address the most pressing challenges facing our District.
JOIN ME FOR MY TELEPHONE TOWN HALL ON MONDAY
I hope you will join me on Monday, December 11 at 6:00 PM PT for my upcoming Housing Telephone Town Hall . I am excited to be joined by special guests Mayor Karen Bass and President and CEO of Los Angeles Housing Authority Douglas Guthrie. We will be discussing programs that increase accessibility to affordable housing across Los Angeles and how we can work together across local, state, and federal levels to ensure our friends and neighbors are housed.

INTRODUCING TYLER’S LAW
Currently, many drug screenings in emergency rooms test for marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, opiates, and phencyclidine (PCP) – but not fentanyl. This week, I joined Congressman Ted W. Lieu and Congressman Bob Latta in introducing Tyler's Law, which will require the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to complete a study on how frequently hospitals test for fentanyl in patients experiencing an overdose and to use the results of the study to issue guidance to hospitals on implementing fentanyl testing in emergency rooms.
This issue has impacted so many families in California and across the country. This legislation is special to our state and is named after after CA-37 resident Tyler Shamash, who passed away in 2018 at the age of 19 due to a lack of proper fentanyl testing. Following his passing California passed this law at the state level, but it is time to enact commonsense policy nationwide to address the opioid epidemic.
