Dear Friend,
I wanted to provide you with an important update from Washington. Government funding runs out on Friday night—and Congress must act quickly to avoid the devastating impacts of a government shutdown.
Democrats worked across the aisle to craft a bipartisan government funding bill with critical aid for farmers and survivors of natural disasters.
Sadly, Elon Musk had other plans. The world’s richest man, and someone who has never been elected to anything, ordered House Republicans to shut down the government.

Republicans abandoned a bipartisan agreement that would keep the government running because wannabe President Elon Musk said so. Listening to billionaires over the needs of the people is a total betrayal of what we were elected to do.
The cuts to the Continuing Resolution rob Americans of the resources and services they deserve, which is why it overwhelmingly failed a few hours ago. The new deal on the table would have:
- Cut funding for child cancer research;
- Stripped key Medicare and Medicaid reauthorizations;
- Eliminated protections against prescription price gouging;
- Slashed funding for youth support programs;
- Shipped jobs overseas; and
- Helped the rich get richer.
By refusing to fund the government, extreme House Republicans are putting critical programs and services that Americans rely on at risk and overall causing complete chaos:
- SNAP, WIC, and the Emergency Food Assistance Program could be disrupted, taking food off the table.
- Active duty and reserve personnel serving our nation’s armed forces would be forced to go without the pay they earn.
- Families flying into airports, especially during the holiday season, could face potential delays and safety concerns due to staffing impacts on TSA agents and air traffic controllers.

A Musk Shutdown would impact over 200,000 active duty and reserve personnel serving our nation's armed forces in California.
I came to Washington to represent you—not Trump's billionaire buddies. I am urging House Republicans to stop taking Elon Musk’s orders and work with Democrats to deliver for the American people and stop a shutdown. You deserve nothing less.
