I just voted against Republicans' partisan bills

A MESSAGE FROM CONGRESSWOMAN KAMLAGER-DOVE:

Dear Friend,

I just left the House Floor after voting against House Republicans' partisan government budget, SAVE Act, and bank fees bill. I’ve talked to you, and I hear you. I know that you want Congress to spend time protecting critical programs and lowering prices, not raising bank fees, restricting voting rights, and giving Donald Trump the power to rob everyday Americans. That's why I voted against these harmful and frankly ridiculous bills.

Let’s start with the GOP’s cruel and reckless budget. Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans are coming for our health care, food assistance, and education. Republicans’ budget proposal is a win for billionaires and a loss for everyone else. It’s laughable that Republicans want to give Trump – the man who just tanked our economy with his temper tariffs – the power to continue his reckless gutting of the federal government. I voted hell no on this partisan, disastrous budget bill.

But House Republicans aren’t stopping at gutting the programs that keep us alive – they’re also attacking our fundamental right to vote. The SAVE Act is a fraud–it’s “saving” no one. It is already illegal for noncitizens to vote in federal elections, but let’s be clear: what this bill actually does is create endless hurdles for citizens to vote, especially women. Americans would be barred from using photo identification like driver’s licenses, military IDs, and Tribal IDs alone when registering to vote – a big problem for the 69 million women in the U.S. who changed their names after marriage. This bill is a no from me.

On top of all that, Republicans passed a bill to eliminate President Biden’s $5 cap on bank overdraft fees. Americans are screaming for lower costs, and Republicans just raised them–benefitting banks, not people. Another no from me.

As always, I encourage you to contact my offices with any comments or concerns about my work in Congress, the 37th District, or any other matters.
