CELEBRATING JUNETEENTH: Juneteenth, which commemorates the day that the last enslaved people in the United States learned about emancipation, is a day for celebration for all Americans, but especially Black Americans. The holiday is also an important reminder to continue working towards racial justice. In honor of Juneteenth, I introduced a resolution to honor, preserve, and ensure investment in former Freedmen’s Settlements—communities established by freed enslaved Americans following the abolition of slavery.
I was also excited to host a Juneteenth Book Reading at the Julian Dixon Library in Culver City. At a time when Black history is being suppressed in schools, it’s more important than ever for our children to learn about our shared past. In Congress, I will always push back against policies that would ban diverse books and censor representative curriculums.

FIGHTING FOR REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS: On the second anniversary of the disastrous Dobbs v. Jackson ruling, which overturned 50 years of precedent in Roe v. Wade, I joined advocates at Los Angeles City Hall to highlight the devastating impacts of this decision and demand federal action to restore reproductive freedom for all women.
I am committed to protecting our reproductive rights in Congress. This month, I voted against House Republicans’ National Defense Reauthorization Act and Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Act, which included extreme policies to restrict abortion access and impose bans on IVF and other fertility treatments. I will always fight back against cruel attempts to strip women of their fundamental right to control their own health, lives, and futures.
