This week, I was honored to be on the Escort Committee to bring in India Prime Minister Modi for a Joint Session of Congress. India is an important ally of the United States, and as Indo-Pacific Subcommittee Chairwoman, I am working to promote shared priorities.
At this week's Financial Services Committee Hearing, we heard from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell. I asked him if they are keeping small businesses in mind when increasing capital requirements, community and regional banks impacted by commercial real estate loans as people work from home, and whether there were political conflicts of interest in SVB bailouts. Ensuring transparency, fighting for taxpayers, and supporting small businesses are top priorities of mine.
We need all hands on deck and all the tools in our arsenal during a wildfire. As the representative of many wildfire-prone areas, including the canyon communities, I am committed to finding responsible ways to address wildfires and support our first responders.
This week, I introduced the Wildfire Tech DEMO Act to help federal land management agencies deploy emerging technologies to address wildfires and keep communities safe.
I am also excited that the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee passed my NIST Wildland Fire Communications and Information Dissemination Act to boost communications and information sharing efforts between first responders, fire management response officials, and community members during wildfires.
The Chinese Communist Party is using Cuba to spy on the United States and actively train the People’s Liberation Army just 90 miles away from our shores. This development cannot be ignored and must be immediately addressed by the Biden administration.
Read my joint statement with Western Hemisphere Subcommittee Chairwoman Maria Salazar (FL-27).
It made my week to see artwork from our CA-40 Congressional Art Competition winner, Orange Lutheran High School junior and Yorba Linda resident Joanne Xu, in the halls of Congress on my way to votes!
As a mother of four grown children who are now having families of their own, I have experienced and seen glimpses of the many maternal health challenges women face during and after pregnancy. Moms are warriors who keep our communities running and deserve our bipartisan support.
I introduced the Protecting Moms and Infants Reauthorization Act to ensure that mothers, as well as their impacted children and family members, who struggle with substance abuse disorders can continue receiving vital treatment they need for a lasting recovery.
I welcomed Speaker Kevin McCarthy to Orange County last week to learn more from law enforcement about rising burglaries by South American Theft Groups.
This is an urgent public safety and national security issue right here in our backyard, and I am fighting for solutions.
Amazing to meet CA-40 Congressional Award Gold Medal winner Matthew Hsieh from Tustin and his family! At age 15, Matthew completed 400 voluntary community service hours, focusing on supporting our seniors. Great to meet you, and I know this is just the beginning!
Make Music Day is a live music celebration held on June 21, the longest day of the year.
Team Young joined in on the fun listening to local musicians and artists in Orange.
I enjoyed seeing former OC Supervisor Bill Campbell and his family in Washington this week!
I met with Acting Comptroller Michael Hsu to talk about what U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency is doing to promote financial literacy. As co-chair of the Financial Literacy and Wealth Creation Caucus, I want to ensure Americans know the tools needed to take control of their finances.
I enjoyed catching up with former Lake Forest Mayor Dwight Robinson and his family this week! Thanks for stopping by my DC office from CA-40.
Thank you to the Thompson Family Foundation for making the Lestonnac Free Clinic Surgery Center a reality in Orange. Team Young joined in this special groundbreaking ceremony, and I look forward to learning more about the life-changing work that will be done here.
I enjoyed seeing the Rancho Santiago Community College Board and Leadership team in town to hear more about all the great work they are doing to support quality educational opportunities in California's 40th District. We appreciate you!
Team Young joined our Yorba Linda community to celebrate the grand opening of Indian Food Express! They had to previously close their old location during the pandemic and chose to reopen in Yorba Linda. Welcome to our CA-40 community! I can't wait to come by.
At this week's California delegation lunch, we heard from Casey Wasserman, chairperson of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games. I look forward to showcasing Southern California to the nation and the world in just a few years, and to see more local jobs and opportunities for our communities as the games get closer.
Otto Warmbier experienced what no American – or human being – should ever have to go through. Six years after his tragic death at the hands of the North Korean regime, we honor his life and are reminded that the US cannot back down in the fight for global human rights.
