News from Representative Larson

Dear Friends-

I proudly voted to pass the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, a bill that will bring more than $6 billion to Connecticut, which President Biden signed into law November 15th. This legislation is fully paid for by reallocating unused relief funds and other policies to ensure the bill does not add to the deficit or raise taxes.

Working with Governor Lamont and Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner Giulietti, we will use this funding to move the Greater Hartford Mobility Study and Hartford400 proposal forward. These investments will fix the I-84/I-91 interchange, fund public transit, and achieve a 50-year goal of recapturing the riverfront. My colleagues from the Connecticut Delegation and I held a press conference about this legislation, which you can watch below.

Here’s what this bill means for Connecticut:

  • $3.5 billion for federal highway programs, including the I-84/I-91 interchange, and $561 million for bridge replacement and repairs like the I-91 Charter Oak Bridge project.
  • $1.3 billion to improve public transportation options across the state.
  • At least $100 million to help provide high-speed internet coverage across the state, which will help more families get online to work and learn, including the 27,000 CT residents who currently lack access.
  • Creates the Affordability Connectivity Benefit, to help low-income families afford internet access. In Connecticut, 654,000 people will be eligible.
  • $445 million to improve water infrastructure across the state, to ensure clean, safe drinking water is guaranteed in all communities, and replace every single lead water service line left.
  • Expands Connecticut’s Electric Vehicle charging network by investing $53 million over five years.
  • $62 million for airport improvements, including Bradley Airport.
Now, Congress is turning its attention to passing the Build Back Better Act, a transformative bill that will lower the cost of prescription drug prices, tackle climate change, fund federal paid family and medical leave, extend tax cuts for families, and much more. I proudly helped write and vote this bill out of the Ways and Means Committee.
