News from Representative Larson

Dear Friends-

On November 15th, the President signed the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act into law. Later that week, the House of Representatives passed the second part of President Biden and Democrats’ plan to rebuild our country and economy: the Build Back Better Act. I spoke in support of this bill on the House floor. You can watch my remarks below.

I proudly helped author and voted for the Build Back Better Act because this legislation puts forward the most consequential investment in the middle-class since the New Deal, including historic tax cuts for working Americans and families. Universal pre-k, investing in childcare, combatting climate change, investing in green energy, lowering prescription drug prices, providing affordable housing, and more are all included in the Build Back Better Act. This bill is fiscally responsible, fully paid for by making big corporations and the wealthiest pay their fair share and according to seventeen Nobel Prize-winning economists, it will help fight inflation.  You can read more about this transformational legislation here.

What does the Build Back Better Act mean for you? Here are some provisions coming right back to Connecticut:

  • Cuts taxes and costs for working families. On average, families will receive $430 back into their pockets per month from the expanded Child Tax Credit and save more than $14,000 a year in childcare.
  • The American Rescue Plan’s health insurance premium reductions will be extended for those who buy coverage through Access Health CT, saving households in CT-01 an average of $1,174 a year.
  • Insulin will be capped at $35 per month and our seniors will have lower prescription drug prices, saving an estimated $900 a year on hearing coverage.
  • Expands access to free school meal programs to an additional 62,000 Connecticut students during the school year and nearly 270,000 students over the summer.
  • Increases maximum Pell Grant awards by $550 for students at public and private non-profit institutions, making college more affordable for the 47,500 students in Connecticut who rely on Pell Grants
  • Creates access to free, high-quality preschool to more than 53,000 additional CT 3- and 4-year-olds and increases the quality of preschool for children who are already enrolled in pre-K programs.
  • Includes the largest investment in history to combat climate change.
