Dear Friends-
Today marks nine years since 26 children and adults lost their lives in an act of senseless gun violence at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. Years later, the tragedies of gun violence still plague our country. Last week, I joined my fellow members of the Connecticut Delegation and the dedicated activists to advocate for common-sense gun reform in our country. You can watch below or by clicking here.

Earlier this year, I had the privilege to walk through Hartford with Mothers United Against Violence, who are on the frontlines of this battle every day, to hear first-hand how gun violence tears our communities apart. Americans cannot wait any longer. The House of Representatives passed the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2021, the Enhanced Background Checks Act, which would close the “Charleston Loophole,” and the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act. I am proud to support these bills along with Rep. Rosa DeLauro’s bill, Ethan’s Law, requiring the safe storage of weapons, and Rep. David Cicilline’s Assault Weapons Ban legislation. It’s long past time these life-saving pieces of legislation become law.
Every day, but especially today, my thoughts are with the families of those we lost in the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary. We must honor every child and adult lost that day with action.
