Dear Friends –
Last year, I voted to expand the Child Tax Credit in the American Rescue Plan. This allowed families to receive up to $3,000 per qualifying child between the ages of 6 and 17 and up to $3,600 per child under 6. It cut taxes for 77,000 families in Connecticut’s First District and on average provided families with an extra $412 a month payment to buy food and school supplies, pay their rent or mortgage, and provide for their families.
In November, I voted for the Build Back Better Act which would continue this expanded tax cut for a year. Due to Senate inaction, this bill has stalled, and these monthly payments have stopped. The last monthly payment was in December 2021. As I continue to work with my colleagues to get this critical legislation across the finish line, I want to hear from you on how this tax cut has helped your family. You can share you story here.
