News from Representative Larson

Dear Friends –

On this day 82 years ago, the very first Social Security payment went out to Ida May Fuller of Ludlow, Vermont. Since then, our country has changed dramatically but the need for Social Security has not.

145,000 residents in Connecticut's First Congressional District receive Social Security payments each month yet many of them, along with beneficiaries across the country, cannot afford basic necessities because Social Security has not kept up with inflation. That is why Congress must improve benefits to help our mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, sisters, brothers, neighbors, and friends. I spoke on the floor of the House of Representatives because Congress needs to act now on Social Security. You can watch my remarks below.

Workers in our country pay into Social Security with each paycheck, and it’s Congress’ job to ensure it’s there when Americans need it. For decades, we have been fighting Republican attacks to privatize the program and cut benefits. I introduced Social Security 2100: A Sacred Trust to improve and protect it, and you can learn more about it here.

As we reflect on this anniversary, I’m eager to work with my House and Senate colleagues, as well as the President, to get this direly needed legislation across the finish line. To follow what I’m working on both in Washington and in Connecticut, visit my Facebook page, follow me on Twitter, or follow me on Instagram.

Best wishes,
