Dear Friends –
I have been fighting in Washington to bring federal funding and resources back to the First District. The American Rescue Plan and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, bills that I voted for and helped author, together represent the most significant investment in local communities during my time in Congress. Over the last two weeks, I visited with some of the leaders in these communities to see the impact of these efforts across the District.
- Nearly $4 million in new funding from the American Rescue Plan will support a new workforce training center, space for small businesses, and a library branch in Hartford’s North End. This project will be an engine of opportunity, supporting new jobs and sustained economic growth in one of the communities hit hardest by this pandemic.
- With $250 million coming to Connecticut in funding for public transit from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the state will be able to modernize its rail and bus fleets, cutting down on commute times and investing in new climate-friendly technologies.
- Libraries across the First District are expanding both in-person and virtual programs with support from the American Rescue Plan. The Southington Public Library will use the grant they received to expand their digital archives and offer new programming for residents.
- $700,000 that I secured in this year’s government funding package for trail safety improvements and flood mitigation efforts at the Hockanum River Linear Park Trail will ensure residents can enjoy the park for another fifty years. I first secured a grant to expand the trail when I served in the CT State Senate. Today, it extends through four towns – including East Hartford and Manchester.
