Dear Friends –
I worked in Congress to pass record aid to our towns and cities in the American Rescue Plan COVID relief legislation because our local leaders know firsthand where resources are needed most. As we recognize Mental Health Awareness Month, I met with constituents and officials across the First District to hear how they are using this funding for new mental health initiatives.
In South Windsor, town leaders dedicated local aid to offer free behavioral therapy for residents and hire new staff specializing in mental health for youth programs through the Recreation Department.

Rep. Larson joins South Windsor Mayor Liz Pendleton, Councilwoman Erica Evans, and State Senator Saud Anwar to announce local investments in mental health.
The City of Middletown is partnering with Gilead Community Services to develop a Mental Health Service Navigation Program. Funding from the American Rescue Plan will allow all residents to connect with a Service Navigator for free that can consult and advocate for patients as they access mental health and addiction services.

Reps. Larson and DeLauro host a roundtable with Middletown city officials and organizations to discuss new programs funded by the American Rescue Plan.
In March, I participated in a hearing on “Substance Use, Suicide Risk, and the American Health System,” where we heard from witnesses who identified how Congress can work in a bipartisan way to address mental health at all levels. We need to meet families where they are by continuing to invest in community-based solutions and providing direct support to end the cycle of poverty.
The pandemic has inflamed our nation’s mental health crisis. More resources to improve mental health will be essential as we aim to build a more resilient nation coming out of COVID-19. I will continue to advocate for solutions that expand access to mental health care for all Americans.
