Dear Friends,
Today, I led a hearing as Chairman of the Social Security Subcommittee of the House Ways and Means Committee to discuss “Strengthening Social Security’s Customer Service.”
We've heard from beneficiaries, advocates, Social Security Administration (SSA) employees, and union members: SSA needs more resources to adequately serve the public. The COVID pandemic has only exacerbated the challenges the agency faces after years of under-funding. At our hearing, we heard directly from key stakeholders in Hartford and around the country, which you can watch below.
I introduced Social Security 2100: A Sacred Trust to make many enhancements to the program, but it would also help improve the SSA’s customer service. In Congress, I will keep fighting to increase funding for SSA and ensure it best serves beneficiaries for years to come.
