News from Representative Larson

Dear Friends,

Even after President Trump claimed he would not cut Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security, Elon Musk identified those three programs as ‘key targets’ for the Administration’s cuts on Fox Business this week. They believe Medicare and Social Security are entitlements, but we know they are not. They are earned benefits you have paid into with each and every paycheck.

I introduced a Resolution of Inquiry that would compel President Trump to turn over information to Congress about ‘DOGE’ activity at the Social Security Administration, including their plans to close field offices or cut staff. Yesterday, every Republican on the House Ways and Means Committee voted to block it from even coming before the full House for a vote.

The White House continues to say they are not after Social Security, but the President has referred to the program as a ‘scam,’ and he spread blatant lies about Social Security benefits that have been debunked by nearly every major media outlet during his Joint Address to Congress.

In fact, at the same time Republicans were voting to block my Resolution of Inquiry, reports came out that Elon Musk’s ‘DOGE’ was planning on ending many of the phone services elderly and disabled Americans rely on at the Social Security Administration. The good news is this: we pushed back, and they backed down. Our efforts to block their plans to gut Social Security and seek accountability were featured last night on The Rachel Maddow Show. I won’t be giving up the fight to protect your hard-earned benefits. As Rachel said, “Every single time you don’t try, you lose. But sometimes when you try, you win.”
