News from Representative Larson

Dear Friends,

Whether I'm in Washington or back home in Connecticut, I am continuing the work to push back against the Trump Administration for our communities – from attacks on after school programs for our kids, to devastating health care cuts and their plans to slash services for our seniors.

Last week, I joined a Boys & Girls Club in Hartford to kick off their busy day of STEM activities with Electric Boat. After-school and summer programs are critical for our kids’ development. I fought back when $54 million in federal funding for every school district in the state and organizations like the Boys & Girls Clubs were taken by the Trump Administration with little to no explanation. Our delegation wrote to Education Secretary Linda McMahon to demand the release of these funds – that were already approved by Congress – and they were restored.

Rep. Jahana Hayes and I visited the Sullivan Senior Center in Torrington to discuss our efforts to help seniors make ends meet and protect their hard-earned Social Security benefits. We passed the Inflation Reduction Act in Congress, ensuring no senior pays more than $2,000 in annual out-of-pocket drug costs, and empowering Medicare to directly negotiate prescription drug pricesThe Trump Administration is trying to privatize and cut Social Security before our very eyes, but we will not give up the fight. When Elon Musk’s ‘DOGE’ tried to close the field office in Torrington that serves our seniors, we spoke up and they backed down. Last week, they backed off their plan to cut phone services at the Social Security Administration after I teamed up with groups like the AARP to push back.

Our health care providers are critical to our neighbors and communities, but the budget Republicans just passed in Congress cuts billions in funding for health care providers and kicks more than 15 million Americans off their health care plans – to pay for a tax break for the wealthy. I visited with patients and providers at Hartford HealthCare to mark National Breastfeeding Month and speak out against these devastating cuts. I joined a group of my colleagues to introduce the Protect Our Hospitals Act to reverse these harmful cuts. You can view my remarks below.
